I am a full-time artist based in Norwich. I create original prints and drawings. I use sketching, printing and painting.

I became a full-time artist in 2018, although I’ve been creating since gaining a BA Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in 1990. The common thread throughout my creativeness is my love of drawing. I grew up in the Peak District and have lived in London and New Zealand and now Norwich. All of these experiences feed into my creativity. This results in a balance of work which is often illustrative in

nature and work based on the female figure informed by life experiences. I’m based in Norwich and work out of my potting shed studio at the bottom of the garden.

In the studio today. Drawing out ideas for cats cradle, the games we play. Compressed charcoal on Fabriano paper, with red ink and then pink pastel. Thinking of the Passing Pride exhibition, playing with identity. Play and games often appear in my work. The games of navigating through a heteronormative world? Reclamation of the games of youth? The game of hide and seek we play with identity.

Anyway. I like the drawings. It was good to just sketch.

Drawing

Continuous line drawing of a hand using wire on a wooden block. I’ll be making another to connect with thread. Preparation for a larger piece, but feeling love for the study. I’ve a couple of pieces I’m working on for Threads as bloodlines, threads we weave to create our own genealogy More on that soon!

Not sure what’s going on with these drawings, but some studio time today was an excellent detraction from events in the world today.

Coloured charcoal and pastel on paper…a bit of red ink in the last image (working drawing for a sculpture)

I’m working on a new drawing inspired by a recent city break in Madrid. Sketches from Prado.

Spraying breasts apparently a symbol of divine nourishment, fertility, and cosmic power. Currently the cherub is distributing flowers… but I might change what it’s distributing…carabiners perhaps? Any suggestions welcome.

I’m liking it so far.

Thought I’d share this painting for Le***an visibility week. Mainly because I’ve just completed it, and it seems vaguely relevant, also, it’s a nice orange beanie.

Love and identity are not quiet. My identity is defiant and you can’t ignore it. Gender nonconforming d**e amongst the socially acceptable rules…but who made the rules. We certainly don’t have to follow them.

The three Graces, quick oil sketch, using my sketch from visiting Ruben’s painting of the same name (you couldn’t take photos, so I sketched in the gallery) when visiting Madrid last month.

The original painting representing Beauty, Sexuality and Fertility, many artists depicting the same theme. Considering what mine might represent…Strength, body positivity and F**k the patriarchy perhaps?

Anyway. I like it in its immediacy and what appears to be only a loose knowledge of human anatomy and scale!

Arm wrestle or foreplay? The strength to find love.

I’ve enjoyed creating g lines to describe the form of the bodies. Particularly that breast. 🙂

It’s been a while since I’ve made a linocut , swipe to see the drawings and progress to create the image.
