Boiler grown broccoli?
No, it's a leaking central heating pipe on a combi boiler which is only two years old. This colourful build up caused poor boiler performance in both central heating and hot water delivery until J L Heating Services cleared it up.

I recommend checking for wet spots beneath your boiler.

This customer had a lucky escape after their F&E tank insulation managed to become submerged and jammed the ball float valve...
Very boring indeed however the consequences were pretty scary - the central heating system became dangerously low on water (as the valve was jammed shut) causing violent banging in the boiler as air was rapidly super heated and expanded which could have resulted in very bad things happening.
The flip side of the event would have been the valve becoming jammed open which would fill the tank and cause a very wet and expensive mess as the overflow was blocked by insulation debris.
So if you have a few spare moments have a look at the tanks in your attic and make sure they don't look anything like this:
