GLASS - There are TYPES?!
Yes, there sure is! And I'm really pleased to be able to offer them with all my commissions!
The costs of framing and glass can be pretty expensive, but I try to make them as affordable for everyone as possible. Of course it won't be a completely customizable Frame, but it's a more cost effective alternative that allows people to have different glass to preserve their commissions, make for better viewing and certain types allow for UV protection which reduces fading.
I am in the process of having a rejig of my pricing which I will post shortly, but I just wanted to run through the different glass options!
Option 1- the best!
This is 'ART GLASS'. I use AR70. A few quick facts about art glass:
- the most expensive option 💸
- UV protection to prevent mediums from fading (especially when they're in color!) ☀️
- for seamless viewing and appreciation of your commission, it's like there isn't anything there! 🤩
- AR70 Vs AR90/92/99? The level of UV blocked out. Museums use AR90+ for obvious reasons, I find AR70 is perfect for the type of situation my commissions will be used for.
- comes with a slightly thicker frame, black is standard. White or grey available.
Option 2- a good option!
This glass is known as 'non-reflective glass'. As the name suggests, it has a special coating to stop the light reflections looking crystal clear and taking the focus away from the commission.
- cheaper than art glass 💰
- works by disrupting the energy from light waves 〰️
- can cause the commission to look less sharp in some instances because of this (compared to art glass)
- however, NO UV protection 🕶️
- a better option than normal glass!
- available in a slightly thinner frame, with more detail around the frame edges. black only.
Option 3 - no glass upgrade
- best option to keep costs down
- no UV protection
- reflections will be super clear, which can take away from the commission in most if not all lightings 💡
- still protects the commission from smudges and damage, especially whilst being transported.
