Vale Upholstery (formerly of Woodborough Road, Mapperley) has recently moved to a new unit in Lambley, Nottingham. Established in 1976, we are a third generation family business, specializing in all aspects of re-upholstery.

There’s something rather special about a traditional Chesterfield, and this one was certainly worth bringing back to life.

This well-loved sofa came into the workshop showing plenty of signs of its years, so we stripped it back and set about restoring and reupholstering it, including all that beautiful deep buttoning.

The finished result is a beautiful red fabric that really suits the classic Chesterfield design — while still retaining the character and shape that made the original so special.

It’s exactly the sort of work we’ve been doing for 50 years this year — giving good furniture another chapter rather than seeing it replaced. ❤️

There’s something rather special about a chair like this… ✨

We recently reupholstered this beautiful, ornate chair in Linwood Helter Skelter, with its soft sage green and warm contrasting pattern. The fabric has been carefully worked around the curves of the chair, with double piping detail adding that extra touch of definition.

We love projects like this, where a beautiful old frame gets a completely new lease of life while retaining all of its original character.

It’s a great example of what we do here at Vale Upholstery — combining traditional upholstery skills with beautiful contemporary fabrics to create something that feels completely at home today.

And with 2026 marking 50 years of Vale Upholstery, it’s particularly nice to see traditional craftsmanship continuing to be at the heart of what we do. 🪡

Knowle sofa, reborn in olive velvet 🌿

There's a reason the Knowle has stayed in fashion since the 1600s — those drop-down sides, the tasselled cords, that generous depth. It's a shape that deserves a proper fabric, and this rich moss green velvet does it justice.

The frame on these old Knowles is usually solid hardwood and built to last generations — so instead of replacing it, we bring it back better than new. Same sofa, another lifetime of use.
