It’s not very often I post spoony based posts as it’s not very often I sit down and make them or rather get round to finish them off. The top scoop is made from apple that I started making at the last outdoors event I attended in 2024 so it’s taken a while.

❄️ Gorse: Winter Gold

Gorse is an evergreen shrub with needle-like leaves, it is a heathland species which thrives in acidic, nutrient poor soils.

Did you know that although gorse predominantly produces it beautiful yellow/orange flowers in spring it is often spotted flowering all year round, lighting up heathlands in winter when most plants lie dormant 🌼

Fun fact: Gorse flowers are rich in nectar, feeding the early insects that emerge on milder winter days. It also provides shelter for birds and insects in the colder months.
Keep your eyes peeled and camera ready for these sunny bursts on frosty mornings! Post your pictures in the comments below, or tag us and use the hashtag

Ok it appears I’ve gone down a bit of a dog lead rabbit hole…… might be on about 6 made now 🤣. I’ve tested them with the harness destroying hound (I think 7 or 8 now due to her strength buggering the stitches) and they were solid

Blackened hazel ball topped stick. Looked a bit dull as a stripped stick so had a go with the blowtorch and now it looks a bit like a shillelagh.

Another dog lead. This time with a bit of repurposed leather to protect the spliced ends.

Something a bit more in the normal wheelhouse! As I spent time sorting out the workshop over Christmas I found this half finished walking staff. Made from sycamore with some spalting at the top to give it some colour, carved finger notches, paracord wrist strap and brass ferrule make this a handy ready to go walking staff looking for some wanders and adventures. £20

Slightly different make today spotted some lanyards for sale and it made me think of trying to make up some dog leads. These are made from natural h**p rope and will be on sale from £10 (as some are longer)

So all the ones I made up before Christmas sold 😱. I had cut some more up over Christmas but it’s been a case of finding time to finish them up. Managed time to finish 4 of them up today one on the left is London plane and the other 3 are walnut. These are all for sale £15 each. They’d make lovely Valentine’s Day gifts 🤣

Plans are well underway for this year's Woodland Festival!

We’re putting the shout out for more stall holders for this year’s Woodland Festival, to join our expanding list of regulars, and we’d love to hear from people who make their own goods, especially using natural, sustainable materials.

We’re after things that are a bit different – handcrafted, thoughtful and unique, with a big soft spot for anything inspired by Sherwood Forest or Nottinghamshire. To keep it fair for everyone, we try not to double up too much on the same kinds of stalls, so each trader gets a proper chance over the weekend.

If that sounds like your cup of tea (or hand-thrown mug 😉), have a chat with Jess about applying:
📧 [email protected]

Please do share with any makers you think would be a good fit – we can’t wait to see what this year brings 🌳
