Sisal is a beautiful natural flooring choice, especially in more traditional-style homes where texture and character can really add to the space.

That said, it is not always the perfect option for every room.

Because sisal is a natural material, it can feel a little rough underfoot and may be more prone to staining than some man-made alternatives. So, for spaces like children’s playrooms, it might not always be the most practical choice.

The good news is, there are plenty of man-made alternatives that can give you a similar look with a little more everyday practicality.

Sisal is a beautiful natural flooring choice, but it does need to be fitted properly.

This recent local installation featured sisal herringbone in a dining room and on the stairs. Because sisal is a natural product, it can react to changes in temperature and humidity, so the fitting process takes place over a couple of days.

On day one, the underlay is fitted, bonded to the floor, and the sisal is rough cut into place so it can acclimatise on site.

On day two, the team returns to fully bond and fit the sisal properly, helping to achieve a flat, clean and long-lasting finish.

It takes a little more time, but it is all part of making sure the final result looks right and performs properly in the home.
