When a craftsman trusts another craftsman 🔨✨

Some projects carry a little extra meaning.

This recent installation in Cirencester, Gloucestershire involved replacing an existing front door that had originally been made and installed by the homeowner himself — Bill, a retired carpenter, joiner, and successful family business owner with a lifetime of experience in the trade.

Today, Bill continues to put his skills to good use through his volunteer work with the Canal Trust, helping maintain lock gates and other historic timber structures.

The original fully panelled timber door had served the cottage well for many years, but time had taken its toll. Air leakage, ageing components, and the absence of modern security features meant it was time for an upgrade.

The challenge was clear: improve thermal performance, security, and everyday comfort while preserving the character and charm of the property.

There is a certain level of trust involved when another tradesman asks you to take over from their own work. That's something we never take lightly.

Our salesperson Mark met with Bill to carefully discuss the project, reviewing what should be retained, what could be improved, and how modern performance could be introduced without compromising the cottage's traditional appearance.

The existing door and frame were fully removed and replaced in just one day, with no structural alterations required.
