Shorter days, cosy nights 🔥 Hello, autumn! 🍂

I must admit, as much as I love balmy summer evenings in the garden, in my mind there’s no substitute for a warm blanket, hot mug of tea and good book when the weather turns! I’m reading “Hare House” by Sally Hinchcliffe just now and it’s the perfect Gothic story for this weather. I find myself getting up early just to read another chapter, before the rest of the house stirs! What about you - what are you reading? 📚

Here’s a cosy living room revamp I co-created with my clients in Perthshire, based around their stunning coastal painting. Their personal taste meets my room direction = the winning Popfox formula! ☺️

NIGHTMARE!!! 😱😱😱

Who’s been here before?

It’s 10:47 pm & you’re comparing 14 lamps on your phone scroll.

Sage green with the nice curvy base? Or burnt orange with the pleated shade? Ah, now Pinterest has gone and thrown a navy floral one into the mix, and suddenly you quite like that too. Aargh!

And now it’s midnight. Great. Just great.

But you know what? You don’t need another option right now. You need a clear VISION for the room. Once you have that sorted, and I mean REALLY sorted, you’ll know which lamp is right instantly.

Top tips for a calm home, from an interior stylist who designs these every week 🏡

Hopefully this reassures you, knowing you don’t have to layer beige upon beige upon beige! It’s possible to get the FEEL of a neutral room without having to remove all colour and character from a space, for sure 🙌🏽

Spent today attempting(!) some poolside admin and fabric ordering, while my son and his 2 friends bobbed about the shrieking, kid-infested waters of Perth Pool. It seems that Live Active’s generous “free swimming all holidays” offer is proving highly popular 🙉😅

Back home now to celebrate Mr P’s birthday. I’m stepping into my elastic PJ bottoms because we’re having takeaway, cake and the kind of portions that suggest none of us has eaten since last Tuesday. Yum.

My clients:
❌ rarely used this sun room
❌ didn’t like all the brown framed windows
❌ considered an extension / full reno to get what they wanted and actually like the space…

But…No need! Working with the footprint they already had, we planned a complete interior revamp - without extending or even replacing the windows!

Now:
✅ They love entertaining in this room and are proud to host loved ones here
✅ They enjoy sitting in it and admiring the garden through their transformed window wall (the power of blinds and paint!)
✅ They have a real sense of flow through into the kitchen, thanks to our use of cohesive colour and pattern here
✅ They can really admire their heirloom dining table and cherished footstool, both of which were at the heart of what we co-created here
