We recently attended the South of England Show at Ardingly (Bees & Honey Marquee) and was able set up an additional table for people to have a go at making a (beeswax) rolled candle. It was open to all and on a 'donations' basis. It was great fun over all three days and everyone enjoyed their efforts at making a candle - many for the first time. The charity was Macmillan Cancer Support and have now made a donation of £153.00 - a huge thank you for everyone who donated (many giving more than the £1 suggestion!) and everyone who had a go. Also we are grateful to the marquee organisers allowing us to run this for such a good cause. This is the third year we have run this at the show and each time your generosity seems to increase. We'll be back at the Autumn Show & Horse trials (26th/27th Sept) and will be doing the same - come along and have a go!

We will be exhibiting at the Wiltshire Bee & Honey Day, a one-day event comprising talks on beekeeping, stands aimed at beekeepers and the public interested in bees, the environment, bee-products and bee-related gifts. Had a great time at the South of England Show two weeks ago in the 'Bees & Honey' marquee. It was a busy weekend and we had added a 'make your own rolled candle' table to our area. It was donations only and we managed to rasie £110.00 for Macmillan Nurses so thank you to everyone that had a go.

Have finally been able to put some dates in for candle-making courses at the workshop over the next few months. They run over one day (usually from 10am - 4pm) and will cover a number of areas designed around learning the basics of candle-making using natural waxes (mainly vegetable waxes & beeswax) including; Basic Items needed for candle-making, safety, basics of wax, wicks, scents and colour, temperatures using waxes, testing and finishing off, insurance, labelling, books and rolled beeswax candles. The course is 'hands on' and we make both tealights and small container candles during the day. The following dates are available for courses;
Friday 11th April – 2 places
Saturday 12th April – 3 places
Friday 23rd May – Full
Saturday 24th May – 3 places
Saturday 28th June – 3 places
These will be on a ‘first-come’ basis and if you would like more information about the day, availability or you would like to book please email me ([email protected]).
