Look what I found! Very old sketchbooks

For those wondering what I’m on about I’m about to start a course & I’m full of self doubt

I decided to look through just a few of my now, old sketchbooks and was surprised at what I had done. One book I called ‘and so the journey began’

I’d transferred from a City & Guilds 2 year course to a Fine Art degree I think in 1995 ( Carol Naylor ?) . I had a graphics degree from school
I was very much still in C&G mode with something niggling at the back of my mind.

Interestingly there’s one photo in one of my first sketchbook, totally unrelated to everything else but said it all not that I fully understood it at the time

Summer project took me to Lord Leighton’s house in London where that niggle started to become an itch to coin a phrase.

But it was when I went to see Cathy’s work my mind blew . Not so much as the meaning but the look, the construction and everything

Wow did it take me off in the direction I wanted and had a fantastic career for some years. Got my MA in the middle of it all, exhibited internationally ( blows own trumpet at The Hermitage in St Petersburg) amongst others

Then I stopped ….. why? I don’t really know. I opened a gallery in 2002 shut it in 2010 the week my father died and then shut the books.

And there they’ve stayed ever since

A couple of weeks ago I was talking to a performance artist about sketchbooks which stirred my mind. Then I saw an artist on IG mentioning a course

So today I opened those sketchbooks for the first time since 2010 !

Dachshunds are well known for not liking rain.
Except this one doesn’t usually mind.
During the summer the door was rarely shut but we would put the gate across as Izzy liked to bark at the world when she was out

I’ve recently had to have the door open as our heating has got its knickers in a twist and is boiling us downstairs.
Obviously this is approved of as she can keep warm smell the world to check she doesn’t have to shout & keep out of the rain!!

Well Mrs grump is in full force today

-the roof has a leak so kitchen flooded
- I’ve given in and put tights on for the first time since the spring
- had to go to the dentist & he found a small hole so I have to go back 😭
- I got soaked through between a parking space & the dentist only a few yards away. My coat obviously isn’t waterproof & even my dress underneath got wet
- right outside the dentist was a parking space!
- I’m cold
- the clocks go back on Saturday
- it’s November soon & I HATE November

Silly me! An forgotten WIP came on our break.

First I cursed bringing the needles I did. KnitPro Zing with mohair, nope! That’s not the best combination but it’s that or put the project back in the bag & twiddle my thumbs

So I persevered. Never, never , never again
One Icord neck band finished but I’m slightly suspicious that it is too tight. Trying it on later.

If it is do I pull it out with mohair . Somehow I suspect not

BUT someone please tell me why I decided to stripe the project when the original was solid….:

After Mike’s hospital stay I wasn’t sure we would get away but we did

He’s still weak but improving . Thought I’d use some time to catch up on a WIP but so far today I’ve not done much other than sleep 😴

I was doing a little stocktake earlier of some yarns when I realised there were some lonely yarns.

This has to change they need new homes and to be seen.

Lonely because there was only 1 of each hanging on the racks . The exception was Hedgehog Fibres but those two have no other friends to keep them company

Don’t leave their little faces looking sad and give them a new forever home
