A wonderful and rare painted furkin (8 gallon bucket) by Ephraim Murdock, a renowned woodware company operating in Massachusetts USA throughout the 19th and first half of 20th centuries. Dating from around 1840. Beautifully decorated with applied and painted birds. Stave and finger construction with a bentwood handle. 30cm high, 30cm diameter. These were often made to hold sugar blocks, but the interior here, lined with red fabric, has been long since converted for use as a sewing box.
