Day 5 of Creative Costume Academy online bootcamp.

With over 20 years of professional seamstress experience making costumes for big theatrical productions like Blue Man Group and Cirque du Soleil, Iโ€™m convinced that you donโ€™t need to take the hard route to start making clothes that fit you perfectly right away. One of the many perks of having me...

Day 5_item 3 of Creative Costume Academy 's 5 day bootcamp Scavenger hunt!

A make I am proud of...

This is the final piece I made during the first ever patterncutting course I did.

We all made a skirt and jacket to the measurements of a Mannequin.
I made mine out of a curtain and a contrasting pink cotton.

It was the cumulation of 10 weeks work learning to draft and make a garment ๐Ÿ™Œ

There's still time to join, and you have until October 27th to finish all the tasks

Managed to squeeze in a trip to see the Schaparelli exhibition at the V&A. I liked the way they've got a mixture of her work alongside the work by Roseberry which shows how hes taken ideas from the archives and created modern interpretations.

Nice details, especially the big plastic zips that we often shy away from in delicate dresses etc.

Even more I havent added here are the buttons, accessories, hats and perfumes that were all on display too!

I made it to the 2nd day of the Contemporary Craft Festival in Bovey Tracey!

I soaked up all the lovely craftyness and even managed to have a catch up with Marissa from Marissa Thereze for the first time in quite a number of years๐Ÿ˜‰
Shes an amazing machine knitter with beautiful scarves, cowls and jumpers ; she is even offering 1 to 1 sessions at the craft fair- do check her out, i spent too long chatting I forgot to take photos of her work ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

This is my kindle holder! Aka the Lumi Pouch by

It's my first time being a pattern tester (i felt a bit more comfortable sewing something with straight edges for my first go).

I answered the call out from Kim for testers along with some fellow sewists and we all went about sewing one up and sending in our feedback.

I had fun creating the gathers and it was great that she made us a video to show how to tackle the tricky corner. It's a lovely little pattern which also shows how to quilt the outer fabric and make a button and loop fastening.

One issue I did run into was choosing a directional print: do watch out if you do- with mine you might just notice the front pattern is actually upside down ๐Ÿ˜… but luckily it's not too bigbof an issue witb this print really.

I think its also a good base pattern that could be altered for all sorts of other little bags: I can see easily that the button could be replaced for a magnetic clasp crearing a clutch bag or even velcro for something light. You could add a strap or little handle too. There are 3 sizes included in the pattern - for different types of ereaders, but you could make it any size you need!

Pop over to her page and you can buy the pattern to download immediately ๐Ÿ‘

Nothing like a bundle of sewing bits that ive been adding to my list for a while, arriving in the post today ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐Ÿงต Always in need of plain thread colours

๐Ÿ‘œMicrotex needles are my current favs for rough fabrics and very fine..

๐ŸงถWool needles- as my various bodkin needles are too big to sew in overlocker threads

๐Ÿชก Fancy-looking Sewing machine needle threader

โ–ช๏ธForming tape- heard good things about this stuff, although didnt realise I ordered the black version!

๐Ÿ”ฒ Also bought some Ivory Viscose Linen, which was on offer but its gone straight into the wash ๐Ÿ‘

Ive almost finished the 5 days of the Fit-abulous Fit Bootcamp with Tricia from Creative Costume Academy. It was very fun ๐Ÿค—

Tricia has boundless energy and is very generous with her knowlege ๐Ÿ‘‡

https://youtube.com/ is the place to find her and join her tribe.
