One of the things we love about designing furniture is how the smallest decisions can make the biggest difference.

We've been working on a new addition to our collection, the Gransmore Bedside Table, and we're at the stage where we need to make a decision.

We wanted to create something with a little character. Beautiful proportions, softly rounded edges and traditional detailing, but with a relaxed feel that would work just as well in a contemporary bedroom as it would in a country home.

We're really pleased with how the design has come together.

But there's one thing we haven't quite settled on. The wood finish.

Gransmore is crafted from solid oak, and we've been looking at two options.

The natural oak feels fresh, light and relaxed. The brown oak has a richer, warmer character that gives the piece a completely different look.

The trouble is, we rather like both!

So we thought, why not ask you? After all, we're designing these pieces for people's homes, not just our own showroom.

Take a look at the two images and tell us which you'd choose.

Natural oak or brown oak?

We're genuinely interested to hear what you think, and your feedback will help us decide which direction to take.

Ever wondered what goes into designing a new sofa?

Quite a lot, as it happens.

We spend hours working through the details. The shape of an arm, the depth of a seat, the proportions of the cushions. Drawing, adjusting, questioning and occasionally going back to the drawing board.

Some changes are obvious. Others are so subtle you might never notice them.

But they all matter.

We're currently working on a new sofa design, and here's a little look at how it's taking shape.

Our aim is simple. Every piece we introduce to the Escapology Home collection has to be something we're genuinely proud to put our name to.

There’s something about mixing natural textures that makes a room feel instantly more inviting.

We love how the rich, textured wood of our Newton Sideboard brings warmth and character to this coastal-inspired space. Paired with an oversized abstract canvas, a beautifully imperfect ceramic lamp and a few simple accessories, it feels put together without being too precious.

And that’s always the goal, isn’t it? A home that looks beautiful but still feels like somewhere you can put your feet up and stay a while.

One little styling tip we always come back to: when you have a statement piece with plenty of texture, keep the surrounding details simple. Give it room to shine.

What do you think of this look?

A sofa should look beautiful. You shouldn’t have to sit beautifully to match.

You should be able to take your shoes off. Curl up in the corner. Finish another chapter. Fall asleep halfway through something you insisted you wanted to watch.

And still feel that the room looks exactly as you hoped it would.

Somewhere along the way, we were encouraged to believe this was asking too much.

Comfort meant bigger. Deeper. More padding. A little too much sofa and not quite enough thought.

Elegance meant straighter backs, sharper lines and somewhere you might admire more often than you actually sat.

At Escapology Home, we believe you deserve both.

A beautiful sofa that leaves you shifting around all evening hasn’t done its job. Neither has a comfortable one that takes over your sitting room.

A calm room is rarely accidental.
It usually comes down to a few quiet decisions that work together. Here's some of our stylung tips:

1. Let the view lead.
If the architecture or outlook is already doing the talking, keep the furniture and styling more restrained.

2. Layer neutrals with texture.
Linen, timber, wool, stone and ceramics stop a pale scheme from feeling flat.

3. Repeat colours, don’t match them.
Use related tones in slightly different shades. It creates cohesion without making the room feel overly coordinated.

4. Mix silhouettes.
Different chair shapes, lamps and tables add character and make a space feel collected rather than furnished as a set.

5. Use darker pieces to ground the room.
A little visual weight gives softer palettes structure and balance.

6. Avoid perfect symmetry.
Rooms often feel more relaxed when everything isn’t mirrored.

7. Leave some breathing space.
Not every wall, corner or surface needs filling.

8. Style in layers, not sets.
The most convincing interiors feel as though they’ve evolved over time.

Good rooms don’t need to shout.
They just need to feel coordinated.

Which of these makes the biggest difference in your own home?

Style the Buckland Sofa with a contrasting cushion or something with a pattern. Either works. With it's petite frame and subtle detailing, it's the kind of piece that makes a space feel beautifully layered.

When the view is this good, the room doesn’t need to shout.

For our latest styling project in Newton Ferrers, we let the landscape lead.

Warm ochre. Natural oak. Sculptural curves. Art chosen to hold its own—without competing with the view beyond the glass.

The result is calm but never cautious.
Comfortable, yet beautifully considered.

A home designed for slow mornings, long lunches, and watching the weather roll across the water.

What caught your eye first - the ochre dining chairs or the curved sofa?

Quiet texture.
Warm wood.
A room that knows exactly when to stop.

The Newton Sideboard brings sculpture into the everyday - grounding the space with natural movement, generous storage and a sense of calm that feels collected, not decorated.

Proof that the most useful pieces can still have presence.
