# # # **New Year, New Start, New Team in February 🏠🪟🚪

As many of you know, I’ve been out of action since the end of November following a nasty fall that left me with few broken ribs and some pretty bad internal bruising.
It was a tough way to end the year, and being unable to work was a real challenge.

**But we are back!**

I’ve used the recovery time to restructure and I’m excited to announce that
**Paul Parry uPVC Windows, Doors & Repairs** is officially back in full swing this February.

I am starting the season with a **brand-new team of expert fitters to which i am so grateful for helping me out before Christmas. We’ve hit the ground running with a fresh focus on quality, reliability, and getting the job done right.

Happy New Year to you all.

My Rant, what as so called Great Britain come to.

Had a fall at the end of November, resulting in a few Broken Ribs and bad internal bruising.

It is a massive shock and incredibly frustrating to find out that despite decades of hard work and paying into the system, the safety net isn't there when you actually need it.
The "principle" of it is exactly what stings; you fulfill your side of the bargain for years, but when a genuine accident happens, you’re told you aren’t eligible for even the basic NI credits.

Why the System Often Fails the Self-Employed
* **Class 2 vs. Class 1 NI:** Most "Sick Pay" (Statutory Sick Pay) is designed for employees. Self-employed people usually pay Class 2 or Class 4 NI, which often doesn't qualify you for the same immediate benefits.

* **The "Means Testing" Trap:** If you have any SAVINGS, INVESTMENTS or if a PARTNER works, the system often SHUTS the door on "Employment and Support Allowance" (ESA), even if you PHYSICALLY cannot work.

* **The January Tax Bill:** It feels like a kick in the teeth to be told you get nothing while simultaneously preparing to hand over a large sum to HMRC in January 2026.

It’s a poor reflection on the country when I have contributed as a self-employed and employee as much as i have is left to fend for themselves during an injury.
