No fancy camerawork here, I’m afraid. We’re very much the live-in-the-moment kind of girls who forget to document things and then regret it afterwards. But we’re working on it.

The sunshine definitely helps though — somehow making everything we do manage to capture look 10 times better!

Better late than never, they say…so welcome to our new studio!❤️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
8 years ago I threw all caution to the wind and opened the virtual doors to Keyhole Interiors. Over time, we’ve grown as a team, survived Covid, and have spent the last 4 years in our Preston office, surrounded by the most wonderful people at the The Artistry House
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Time and time again, our work kept bringing us back to the Lake District, and alongside the many amazing projects we take on all across the North West and UK in general, it became the place where we felt we should base ourselves. Keyhole Interiors has always been driven by nature, landscape, a sense of place and real, tactile, earthy materials - and I believe this is why we have always felt so at home in the Lakes and why so many of our lovely clients and projects are local to this area.

After a few years of searching, lots of daydreaming, and a (slightly unexpectedly lengthy 🥴) renovation, we are finally home. Our little studio sits in the heart of Windermere - this is where you’ll find us scheming, working out many a technical packs, designing and drinking copious amounts of coffee. No matter where you are based, we’d love to welcome you and chat about your project!

Snippets of May. What a busy one it was ❤️ Just the right amount of madness:

1. Visiting a previous project to see clients I am now lucky to call friends. Never fails to disappoint when you go back and find everything as pristine as when you handed it over!
2. Finishing touches to the studio
3. A quick dash to Wales to spend some much needed time with the best friends and
4. And a lot of time spent on site staring at various things
5. Many a rainy Lakes site visits
6. Trialling the ceiling cladding at a project and deciding if pinning or glueing is the way to go. Small detail, big difference
7. Teamwork with the ultimate dream team
8. A much needed break in beautiful Croatia
9. And noticing all the details, even when on holiday

Just a few of the details we love so much in the kitchen of our farmhouse project, set in the beautiful Lancashire countryside. It’s hard to bottle up over a year’s worth of work in one short video, but here we are anyway, because these are the details - no matter how small - that make a project. We can’t wait to finish the second phase of this project and style it up, ready for our photoshoot!

Alongside our lovely clients’ projects, we’ve also been quietly working on a renovation of our own… and trying to keep it a secret 🙈 This will be the new home of our studio, in a place we love so much, so we’ve taken our time to make sure it’s just right before sharing it with you. Now that the end is finally in sight, we couldn’t not give you a little glimpse. We can’t wait to welcome you in for a good, strong cup of coffee.

Let’s talk lighting. How much is too much, and how do we know when enough is enough?

The Elms project is a great example of using multiple types of fittings in a considered way. We spent a lot of time defining what was needed and what would have been clutter. The aim was to keep the space homely and warm, while ensuring the right level of artificial light for every part of the day.

The do’s and don’ts for this open-plan living:

- No spotlights of any kind. The kitchen sits within a beautifully designed extension with varying ceiling heights, planes and angles. Spotlights would have sat awkwardly and wouldn’t have given those architectural details the soft, understated highlight we were after.

- Task lighting can be pretty. In lieu of spotlights, we still needed enough light for a family who loves cooking. We chose a combination of pendants and wall lights, opting for slimline, delicate fittings that wouldn’t clash or visually close the space.

- LED lighting doesn’t have to feel commercial. We used it behind the Crittall cabinet doors and under the sink run shelving—creating a soft glow, just enough for slower evenings and snack-dash moments.

- Consider lighting from adjacent spaces. The pantry sits behind a glass Crittall door, so light spills into the kitchen—which, when handled well, works beautifully.

Sometimes, a space you inherit when buying a home simply doesn’t fit. And it takes courage to admit that — and even more to start again!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A small sneak of a room that’s now becoming an entertainment space, but once was a pool room (swipe for the before). This corner is designed for exactly what the house deserves — family and friends, laughter, a glass of wine here and there, board games, a good film — all set against the backdrop of Lake Ullswater.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Five years in the making, every decision has been considered, reconsidered, and then considered again — just to be sure. And for a family who’d rather be swimming in the lake, come rain or shine, making such a bold change felt completely right.
