THE 60:30:10 COLOUR RULE...
If you're not confident using colour in your decor, adopt the 60:30:10 colour rule to keep you on track.

60% of your room in one base colour, usually a neutral but you could go bold. Flooring and walls.

30% of the room in a secondary colour to add depth and definition. Could be an accent wall or the furniture.

10% in an accent colour to catch your eye at different points across the room. Cushions, artwork or vases for example.

Swipe to see how we used the 60:30:10 colour rule in our recent show home design >>>

THE UNEXPECTED RED THEORY...
Although the practice has been around for longer, the phrase "Unexpected Red Theory" was coined by interior designer Taylor Migliazzo Simon in 2024.

It's the adding of a splash of red into any room, where it doesn't belong, improving the space. The unexpected accent adds energy and cohesiveness to the color palette with smalll intentional elements such as a lamp or a picture frame. It disrupts the space, making it feel more curated.

In reality, you can use any strong colour, out of keeping with the scheme palette, but red is the boldest choice.

The latest show home we designed has dusky blue as a common thread throughout, with red in some rooms, so it was perfect for trying out 'the unexpected red theory' in the children's bedroom.

What do you think? Has it worked?

MAKING A HOUSE A HOME...
Show homes are a proven way to quickly engage potential buyers. They are full of details that draw you in with emotion.

Our purchased show homes are mainly for the larger housing developments with multipleplots to sell. However, the smaller developers can get the show home look with our furniture rental and styling service.

We apply the same level of detail to both.
