Another motorised Velux installation completed for Michael and Ann.

These two awkward roof windows were positioned high up in a double height room, so access was far from straightforward.

I supplied and fitted two solar powered Velux blinds, giving them simple remote control without needing any new wiring or having to reach the windows manually.

It was a really enjoyable installation to work on, and Michael was kind enough to leave this review afterwards:

A small part of August with TrueShade.

It’s been a really busy few weeks with lots of measuring and fitting blinds, shutters and shading into homes and businesses across Northamptonshire.

We’ve been working on everything from everyday rollers and verticals through to motorised blinds, roof lantern shading and window film, so social media has taken a bit of a back seat lately.

A lovely motorised blind installation in Fulham, with TrueShade Interiors supporting Herdman Blinds.

Hot kitchen? This is where solar reflective window film can make a massive difference.

I recently fitted solar reflective window film for Ilona in Lavendon. During the really hot days, her kitchen was getting so uncomfortable that even making a cup of tea was too much.

The film is designed to reject up to 79% of total solar energy and reduce glare by up to 83%, while still allowing natural light into the room. It also gives the glass a smart reflective finish from outside during the day.

Since having the film fitted, the kitchen is much more comfortable and usable. Ilona was really happy with the result and even said you wouldn’t really know it was there apart from the room feeling much cooler.

It can be a great option for kitchens, conservatories, garden rooms, patio doors and sunny south facing windows that become too hot or glary in the summer.

With this heat, some rooms can become really uncomfortable, especially when the sun is hitting the glass for most of the day.

This photo shows a solar reflective window film install I helped Herdman Blinds with at Samuel Whitbread Academy in Shefford.

The left window has no film fitted, and the right window has the solar reflective film installed. You can still see plenty of natural light coming through, but the film helps reduce the harsh glare and heat coming into the room by rejecting 70-80% of solar energy.

Across the project, we helped treat 27 classrooms to make them more comfortable for the students and teachers during warmer weather.

It’s a great option for homes too, especially conservatories, garden rooms, offices, kitchens, bifolds, roof lantern spaces and any rooms that get too hot in the sun.

A recent kitchen shutter fitted for Fiona in Bozeat, completed within 3 weeks of order.

This one was designed with a 70/30 split, which works really well for a kitchen window like this. The lower section can be closed for privacy from the street, while the top section can stay open to keep natural light coming into the room.

It also has a hidden tilt mechanism, so there are no visible tilt rods on the front of the shutter. This gives a cleaner, more modern finish while still keeping full control of the louvres.

Shutters are a great option for kitchens, especially where privacy, light control and a neat made to measure finish are important, while also being moisture resistant.
