This Victorian oak writing desk has quietly lived a long life. Made by Holland & Sons, one of Britain’s most respected cabinetmakers of the 19th century, it carries the same maker’s stamp found on pieces created for Queen Victoria, the Houses of Parliament, and the British Museum.

We’ve restored it with care, not to erase its past, but to let its character shine through. The turned legs, the original handles, the hand-cut dovetails in the drawers, each detail speaks of the hands that shaped it more than 150 years ago.

We love statement heritage pieces like this and try to include them in every room we design.

The Old And New Kitchen. This project was truly a labour of love. What looks like a seamless transformation hides many months of challenges, surprises, and determination.

For our new kitchen, we wanted to bring together everything we love about design: the beauty of natural materials, the charm of antique pieces, and the calm elegance of contemporary finishes. A stripped antique oak housekeeper’s pantry cupboard became our statement piece, anchoring the room with character and history. Around it, we paired traditional cabinetry painted in Farrow & Ball’s French Grey, with the island in Drop Cloth for soft contrast. The floor is laid in terracotta tiles from Ca’ Pietra.

What the images don’t show is the journey. Beneath the old concrete floor, we discovered copper piping that had been cemented in place and had burst over time, flooding the space. The only solution was to dig out the entire floor and start again. We moved out for 18 months, facing more curveballs than we could have imagined.

But now, standing here, it feels worth every step. We hope you enjoy seeing the journey from beginning to end.

The secret to beautifully styled shelves? Contrast and curation.

Start with a mix of heights and textures — pair vintage pottery with clean-lined vases, stack a few well-loved books, and layer in natural elements like wood or stone.

Leave space for things to breathe. Not every shelf needs to be full — negative space gives the eye a place to rest and makes each piece feel intentional.

And remember: the most inviting shelves feel collected over time. Let them tell a quiet story of old and new.
