We have a regular evening sewing class and a couple of spaces have opened up for the next batch of six lessons. If you'd like to learn how to make your own clothes, then this is the class for you! Julie is an excellent teacher and you'll have fun learning with the rest of the group. It's a very friendly and welcoming class, so you'll be made to feel at home in no time.

You'll need to bring your own sewing machine and the patterns and fabric aren't included in the cost, but we'll make sure there are plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits to keep you well fuelled. The patterns are available to purchase from The Hive / Julie and there's also a small selection of fabric to choose from if you don't already have some.

Hi everyone. I'm sorry that the issue of our toilets keeps coming up, but here it is again. I'd be grateful if you could read the info in the images.

It's yet another unexpected bill and it's at our quietest time of year. Therefore, if you'd been planning to visit or book a class or workshop, this week would be a great time to do so. Don't forget, our sale runs until Saturday, 30th May!

We'll be needing the sales to help pay this latest bill and to cover the cost of drain rods, so I can (hopefully) keep the drains clear myself. I'd also like to order some more fabric, get the back yard looking tip top for our groups, buy some outdoor lighting, add to our shop signage, pay the electric bill, wages, internet, business rates, order more bag making kit......the list is endless!

We have yet another course to offer you! This time, it's with Amy, our in-house knitting whiz! Here's what she says:

"Want to try knitted colour work but a jumper is too big a commitment when you’re new to colour work?

Let me help you get over any nerves by making a fun, quick (for knitted colour work) in the round cup cozy.

We’ll use the free pattern from Pacificknits as all her designs fit into the pattern. So you can choose your favourite style. We’ll be using DPNs (double pointed needles) and DK (double knit) yarn.

First lesson we’ll be getting our dotted paper and colouring pencils out to map out the design. Then we’ll cast on and begin the ribbing for the cozy.

Second lesson we’ll start our colour work knitting in the round. I’ll show you how to read your chart and carry floats.

Third lesson we’ll be finishing up the colour work and the top ribbing and casting off. If you don’t finish in this lesson and feel you need help to finish; you’re welcome to join our usual Tuesday morning knitting classes after this course has finished."

We have a lot happening at the moment, so keep your eye out for one post giving a round up of all our workshops and courses planned for between now and the start of the summer holidays.

Miss Harley was finally spayed yesterday and is being treated like the queen she's always known she is. As you can see, she's acquired a pink onesie and Islay's best blanket as symbols of her status.

Thankfully, all went well without the drama of last week's attempt when she had a seizure caused by the anaesthetic.

She's resting up at home, where the ladies in waiting are on hand to carry her up and down the stairs at a moment's notice and only feed her the finest treats a dog can wish for.

Have you visited Risca's yarn shop yet? If you're still to find us, then our spring sale would be a good excuse to seek us out! Starting on Thursday, 21st May at 10am, we'll have up to 40% off selected lines and we'd love any help to spread the word about our gorgeous little shop opposite the Commercial Inn on Commercial Street.

We specialise in knitting and crochet, but stock embroidery, cross stitch and macrame supplies too. We've recently started to offer dressmaking lessons and so we are now building up our fabric and haberdashery offerings too.

Come and see us, have a browse and find out about our groups and classes!

Please note, we will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday and Wednesday. Late night opening on Thursday until 8pm. Sale continues until Saturday, 30th May.
