I dont usually share my cllr work on here. You all know how much work neil has put in for Ukraine. So I thought i would share this on here.❤️

Many of you already know Neil, but I wanted to share that he has decided to put his name forward and stand as an Independent Town Councillor for Ross-on-Wye West.

Ross is Neil’s home, he has lived here all his life. Long before I joined the council over seven years ago, Neil was already dedicated to serving this community. He spent 35 years in the fire service, with a huge part of that career right here in Ross keeping local families and businesses safe.

He’s never been someone to sit on the sidelines. Whether it was being out in the pouring rain at midnight helping shop owners protect their livelihoods during the floods, working behind the scenes on town council working groups, or helping pull together major events like the carnival, Neil is always among the first to roll up his sleeves when the town needs him.

Having sat through countless council meetings and working groups over the years, he understands how the local council works, but more importantly, he knows what needs improving. He’s running as an Independent because his only priority is Ross, listening to what residents actually care about, speaking up with common sense, and getting things done without party politics getting in the way.

I’ll be right beside him supporting his campaign over the coming weeks. Neil has spent a lifetime turning up for Ross-on-Wye, and I know he will bring that exact same dedication, integrity, and hard work to the council table.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. I am very grateful. I am home thankfully. Just lots of rest and the target is day 15 as its already started to knit together by then, so it shouldn't fail. 🤞I have an amazing surgeon and he is so nice and I will be getting a lot of check ups over the next few weeks/months.

I am happy with my progress so far but I will be a bit of a hermit for a while to give it time to heal. Bonus i have neil cooking me a sunday roast tomorrow. So i might milk this for a few weeks 😆I will keep you all updated. Thank you again 💓

A quick, positive update: my scan came back completely clear! 🎉

No pockets of fluid, and my surgeon is just as relieved and happy with my progress as I am. Even after a bit of a rocky start, two days post-op feels completely different this time. I’m walking properly, the shaking and nausea have stopped, and my taste is actually back.

Still taking it easy and following the surgeon’s orders, but celebrating this win today!

A bit of an update on my surgery…

I had my repair done yesterday and woke up in recovery around 4:00 PM. To cut a very long story short, last night was an absolute nightmare between unmanaged pain and issues with the night staff—to the point where I actually ended up sleeping in my car just to take my own pain medication. After a lot of phone calls today, apologies have been made about the care i received. On the plus side, yesterday morning’s staff and the entire theatre team were truly amazing, and I can’t fault them at all.

I’ve since spoken with my surgeon, and things were definitely not straightforward. The 4.5 mm opening in the membrane they expected wasn't just 4.5 mm—it was completely open, and all the nylon stitches were gone. My surgeon, his colleagues, and specialists at other hospitals he contacted have never seen anything like it. Because stitching it directly wouldn't hold, he had to take muscle from my neck to create a patch, glue it, sew it, and place a second patch over the top to get it to stay hopefully 🤞

I have an MRI tomorrow to check if it’s still leaking. If it is, I’ll need a lumbar drain, and if it opens up again, they will have to go back in. We’re in a bit of a waiting game now, but it looks like I’ll likely be stuck in the hospital until late next week so they can be completely confident the repair holds.

Quick update on today's hospital visit!

It turned out to be far more dramatic than expected—walked into my appointment to discover I’d been put on the emergency surgery list without realizing!

My surgeon explained that I have a 4.5mm tear in the membrane around my brain, which is causing fluid to pool in the back of my neck.

Because I didn't have any of my things packed, they’ve let me wait at home on call for a bed. Surgery will be either tomorrow or Friday depending on when a bed frees up. I’ll be admitted for at least a week post-op for regular MRIs and monitoring to ensure the leak is completely sealed.

A bit of a whirlwind day, but so glad to finally have a clear plan and get this fixed.

What was drafted on paper in 1991 is now being actively defended on the ground every single day—turning an annual commemoration into a living, costly fight for the right to exist, choose their own future, and maintain their sovereignty.

Sorry for the radio silence, everyone. I wanted to wait until I had some concrete updates to share.

I had my lumbar puncture on the 5th of August, which turned into a total nightmare. The doctor doing it seemed nice enough at first, but after hitting bone twice, he tried to draw fluid on the third attempt—only he wasn't even in the right spot. It hurt so much that I told him he had to stop and take the needle out. He then claimed he couldn’t do it and actually wrote on my notes that I had refused the procedure! The nurse wasn’t impressed, and neither was I.

After avoiding me for three hours, the nurse made him come speak to me. His excuse for failing? Apparently, I’m "not a slim frame" 😆🙄. A formal complaint has definitely been made.

Meanwhile, the fluid buildup in my neck is really bad and my symptoms are getting worse. Tests that were supposed to take a week dragged out for four weeks. After my latest appointment, I was referred for an emergency MRI and an X-ray-guided lumbar puncture, which was supposed to happen within seven days. I chased them up today and managed to snag a cancellation for an MRI tomorrow morning at 9:15 AM.

This scan should clarify whether it’s a CSF leak or if we're still looking at hydrocephalus—both of which will require surgery. I should know more by tomorrow or Friday and will keep you posted.

On a brighter note, I am still fully planning on travelling to Ukraine at the end of September. I have something very important to do there—it’s a surprise, and I can’t wait!

Thought i would do a mini upgrade. Symptoms at the moment aren't the best. However this Wednesday is my lumber puncture 🥰. It is definitely hydrocephalus or a csf leak. As I have fluid building up in my neck. I am still looking towards September for our next trip. I will keep you all posted on Wednesday. Have a fab weekend. Dont forget the carnival is on this sat. 11 till 5 pm at the rope walk and the parade is 1pm

Hi everyone, just wanting to share a quick update. I’m still waiting for my emergency lumbar puncture. I’ve been back and forth to Birmingham, and while they tried everything to get me in this week, my surgeon is now on holiday. They return on August 5th, which is when my appointment is now scheduled. I did ask if I’ll make it that far, and I was told I should do, so for now, I’m in limbo again.

Despite all this, I’m going to start making some tentative plans for the middle of September. I’m not setting it in stone so I can easily move it by a week or so if I need to. If I end up having another surgery, I’d be about 6 weeks post-op by then.

With that in mind, I’ll start posting the things we will need next week. It will still be a drop-off at my house. Please bear with me, though—I still have mobility issues, so I might struggle to answer the door sometimes, but we can always sort that out as and when. I am also dealing with a few communication issues; I can completely forget what I’m saying or get my words mixed up so nothing makes sense! Hopefully, that will improve once they fix the pressure issues.

Sorry its a long one not war and peace yet.📖

Hey everyone. I want to give a proper update on what’s been going on with my health lately.

For 2 weeks i was doing really well then when the heat came i went down hill over the weekend i went away.

Last week, I started getting really bad ear pain, weird noises, and muffled hearing. The hearing has thankfully gone back to normal, but the pain hasn't. It honestly feels like my ears are about to explode, and it’s definitely not just an infection. I was struggling to control the pain and couldn't even eat because I was being constantly sick, so I knew something wasn't right. Plus my walking is still dodgy which can be another symptom. Thank god as I have caught it early.

I ended up in Birmingham A&E twice, which was an awful experience. All they wanted to do was a lumbar puncture—which is a really serious and risky thing to do to a Chiari patient! Thankfully, they eventually just did a CT scan.

After a bit of a conversation with my surgeon's secretary 🙄, she agreed to email him while he was away at a conference. Fair play to him, he is absolutely amazing. He rang her straight away and told her to get me an appointment anywhere possible on Monday so he could see me.
We went through the scan I had done the day after my op, alongside the new one from last week. They found a few pockets of fluid buildup and are concerned it might be hydrocephalus. Basically, the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that normally protects the brain, removes waste, and provides nutrients isn't draining properly, which causes a buildup of pressure. This totally explains my symptoms, including the ear pain and my issues with walking.

So, what’s next?
This isn't a final diagnosis yet, but here is where we are at:
I’m on a very strong dose of steroids until Friday.
If things don't improve by Monday, I’ll be booked in for a lumbar puncture within 2 days.
If that shows high pressure, I’ll be admitted and will need another surgery the next day to have a stent fitted.

My last surgery i was told today was complicated. My surgeon actually mentioned that out of the 400+ patients he sees a year, he only operates on about 15! Plus, having Crohn’s means I can’t take medications like ibuprofen, which makes pain management, helping with inflammation and recovery so much longer and harder.

Right now, I'm just focusing on positive thinking and hoping these steroids do the trick so my surgeon can give me the all-clear. I am so incredibly grateful for him—he didn't rush the appointment, talked me through absolutely everything and showed me all of the scans, I do have an amazing team in Birmingham and i am really greatful to him.

Every day is different. One thing first op is have ever had with no infection and how neat it is. 3 weeks and fully healed on the outside. I am happy with it.
