A few years ago I went to an elderly couple’s house. It was dark, around 5pm in December, and the lady answered the door looking really nervous.

I asked if she was ok, and she told me she was nervous because she never knew who was going to turn up at her door.

That really stuck with me.

It made me realise that when you invite a tradesperson into your home, you’re putting a lot of trust in them.

That’s when I decided I wanted to put my face to my business and show people who I am and the work I do.

That’s why I share so much of the process on here.

I want customers to see the preparation, the tools, the techniques and the finished work. Not because I expect everyone to understand how to fit a floor, but because I think it’s important to see the care and pride that goes into it.

So if you’re a customer watching my videos, hopefully they give you a little more confidence in who you’re inviting into your home and the work I’m going to carry out.

That’s the real reason I show my face and my work.

Last Saturday at 9am, I started walking along Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for charity.

I walked for 24 hours and covered 82km.

It was tough. I had blisters and a sore ankle, but I kept going.

Thank you to everyone who donated, supported me or followed my challenge.

82km. 24 hours. Done.

Last year, as part of the Cockerill & Co community, we raised over £4,000 for SANDS by climbing Blencathra five times in 13 hours.

This year we’re back at it again. A group of us from the flooring industry are taking on a 24-hour challenge along Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

The challenge is simple – see how many miles we can cover in 24 hours. It’s going to be tough, but it’s all for a great cause.

The British Heart Foundation funds life-saving research into heart and circulatory diseases, and every donation helps, no matter how big or small.

Another one finished this week. 👌

On this one we supplied and fitted QuickStep Cinnamon Oak herringbone, uplifted the existing floor and took care of all the waste, so the customer didn’t have to lift a finger.

Like a lot of the work we do, this job came from a recommendation from previous customers.

That never gets taken for granted. People trusting us enough to recommend Zacetta Flooring to their friends and family means a lot, and it’s something we work hard to earn on every job.

May of seen the photos of this before which was installed well over a year ago, but here’s the technical side.

Ground the subfloor back, whacked the tramex moisture metre on it and it was reading 2.6. Proper wet. With UFH under there you’re wanting that down to 0.3 before you go anywhere near it with a floor.

Only other option at that point was an expensive resin DPM system, so instead we force dried it, got the windows open and dehumidifiers in, and kept on top of it with regular readings. Took about 6 weeks all in to get it down to where it needed to be - just one of them jobs you can’t rush.

Once it was there, primed it up with fball product suitable for a calcium sulphate pump screed like this one, then got this LVT down.

Had a go at making a motif just because I’ve nothing better to do in my spare time 😂

Cut up some J2 and Brampton Chase on the guillotine and knocked this together.

First one I’ve done. Looks alright.

Never again. 🤣
