Todays Fascinating Find In The UKs Largest Reclamation Yard -

Every now and again, the stock in our yard yields a hidden piece of historical treasure. Now, this may look like a normal 200 year old Staffordshire Blue handmade roof tile…. But the back of this tile holds a secret. If you look closely, you can see elaborate handwriting. The clay slab that this tile was made from was used to write down a short sentence, which reads the following:

I do hereby discharge you John Lewis from my employment, Thomas Austin

Yep, thats right. This is effectively an 18th Century P45. Which was then used for its originally intended purpose and put up on a roof for a couple of hundred years. We knew clay tiles had to be fired, but didn't realise clay tiles could do the firing themselves!

🔥 Cast Iron Fireplace With Eagle Motif

A striking reclaimed cast iron fireplace featuring a grand spread eagle motif to the fascia.

The fireplace also features a maker's stamp to the backplate reading “S Smith, Makers, Bee Hive Foundry, Smethwick”, adding an interesting detail to this distinctive piece.

Carefully reclaimed, refinished and ready for its next home, this fireplace would make a standout feature in a living room, study, or restoration project.
