Saturday scheming 🪼

I’ve always loved this wallpaper. It’s classy and not too twee. But really enables you to embrace a theme.

One of the best holiday homes I fitted out for blinds in Norfolk used this in their master bedroom on sloping ceilings. And one of the best seafood restaurants I’ve been to in Bamburgh, used this wallpaper in their bathroom The Potted Lobster Bamburgh . It comes in 3 colourways and they are all fabulous. It also hangs beautifully.

Sometimes I miss all the coastal themed work I did in Norfolk, but in equal measure 📐 sometimes I craved anything but more stripes! 😂

Anyway; an ode to my past, never forgotten! And working alongside the best Mummy who taught me everything I know!

When might you need to choose Roman blinds over curtains?

-when you have a dormer window (where curtains would end up covering a lot of the window glass)
-when you need to fix to the window architraves and this would impact where the curtain track or pole brackets would sit and therefore how curtains would look (probably not full enough and taking up too much of the window glass)
-when room either side of a window is restricted, and therefore curtains would interfere with the view, when open (again taking up too much of the window glass)
-over a sink, roman blinds often just make sense because they can finish and sit above the work surface, and not get wet, and not take up bulky space in a kitchen/ wc
-when there’s a window seat that you want a box seat cushion for, and plan on using!

We hoped we’d be finished next month. Classic amateur builders! 👷 Now aiming for April 🤞

Classic Farrow & Ball Pointing in the background. The best warm white. This one is for a boot room.

The starting point was The Brook. So many lovely hues of green and blue in this wallpaper.

My little display at Saffron Walden’s Tourist Information Centre.

I went for Spring vibes 🍃 as it’s basically still warm 😂.

If you think the centre is just for tourists, it’s actually so useful for locals. They have leaflets galore of what’s going on locally (I saw one for a crochet evening at Smokin’ Roses !). And lots of publications on local schools and child friendly local activities. Check it out. It’s right next to the Town Hall in the market square.

Saturday scheming (done by a human, not AI!) 🫡

As promised, after my sister’s comment last week… this time I actually filmed some of the scheming behind the Moodboard.

This one is for a client whose medieval bedroom is already painted in Farrow & Ball White Tie, with Pointing on the ceiling, so there’s no need for wallpaper in the finished scheme. But I couldn’t resist bringing in this grasscloth from World of Wallpaper . It adds such a lovely layer of warmth and texture and is so reasonably priced compared with many of its counterparts. It’s incredibly versatile too, I’m now wondering whether it might have found a home in my new office…

The starting point was the beautiful Spring Meadow May from Sanderson ‘s National Trust Vol II collection. Then came those rusty reds to complement the exposed brick in the room, followed by the ochres, soft greens and blues with texture and trims. I love how all the colours sit together without it feeling too ‘matched’.

And yes, there is a moment where I give the fringe a little stroke, because, well, if you know, you know.
