We recently sat down with Debbie Gilbert for the Business Awards Show Podcast to talk about the journey behind By Two Studio - from leaving our previous careers and retraining in interior design, to working together, building the studio and the lessons we've learnt along the way.

Long before the furniture arrives and the finishing touches are added, decisions are being made that will shape how the finished home looks, feels and functions.

Lighting positions. Electrical points. Bathroom layouts. Joinery. Materials. Sightlines. Furniture placement.

On a large renovation or new-build project, interior design doesn't begin when construction finishes.

It belongs within the process from the beginning.

And for us, this stage is every bit as exciting as seeing the finished home.

More space isn't always the answer.

When planning an extension, it's easy to focus on how many extra square metres can be added.

But one of the first things we look at is whether the existing space could work harder.

Could the kitchen connect better with family life?
Could circulation improve?
Could rooms that are rarely used serve a completely different purpose?

Sometimes an extension is absolutely the right answer. But the best result comes from considering the new space alongside the home you already have.

Because the goal isn't simply a bigger house.

It's a home that works better for the way you actually live.

For us, whole-home interior design is about looking beyond individual rooms and considering how everything connects - the flow, materials, lighting, joinery and all the details in between.
