Notes from the Studio ✨

This month has been full of lovely moments here at Cotton Tree Interiors where we worked hard but enjoyed our beautiful surroundings here in Suffolk too 🌞

We welcomed our brilliant reps from Holly Hunt and Schumacher into the studio, always a treat to sit down with them and see what’s new. We also unwrapped the unreleased ROMO collection books which we are all very excited about!

We celebrated two birthdays in August too. Director Kim was treated to a wonderful cake baked by senior designer Becky, and Becky (who usually bakes all of our cakes!) had the tables turned, with Kim baking her a beautiful feline-inspired cherry chocolate cake in return.

Beyond the studio walls, the team have been making the most of a gorgeous Suffolk summer, with plenty of trips to our favourite spots along the coastline. They’ve shared a few snippets here too… from Walberswick to Southwold and Aldeburgh, with a stunning sunset in Walpole captured too 🌅

Lots to be grateful for in August, and now it’s ‘back to school’ as we start on some new projects, wrap up existing ones, and prepare for a busy September here in the Cotton Tree studio. 🤍

We’d love to know if you enjoyed any of our gorgeous beaches here in Suffolk this summer too? Let us know in the comments if you did! ✨

The Bell Hotel, Saxmundham: Phase 3 🔔✨

Some projects feel that little bit extra special, and this one is no exception.

The Bell Hotel sits just a stone’s throw from our studio here in Saxmundham, making it one of the most personal commissions we’ve had the pleasure of working on.

What began as a full renovation in 2022 has grown into an ongoing creative relationship. For phase three, we were trusted to design four more bedrooms, each one inspired by the Suffolk landscapes on our doorstep.

Swipe through to step inside the new bedrooms… Blythe, Butley, Deben, and Minsmere ✨

We’re so grateful to the team at the Bell for continuing to trust Cotton Tree with their vision. Watching this hotel come back to life, phase by phase, has been one of our greatest joys.

It's the details that bring a kitchen like this to life ✨

For the built-in banquette seating, we chose a velvet cord fabric - Osborne & Little's Genoa Cord - for a touch of softness and texture, balanced beautifully against neutral chairs and bar stools to keep the scheme grounded.

Curtains and blinds in Jane Churchill Hopper add a layer of pattern and warmth to the windows, while a subtle blue tone runs throughout, flowing into the adjoining prep kitchen and family room, so the whole space feels connected and beautifully balanced from room to room.

Coral cabinetry, detailed with bamboo beading and lacquer handles, equips this room as a guest bedroom slash study... proof that a hardworking space doesn't have to compromise on character.

Velux windows are dressed with gathered curtains, fixed top and bottom on simple black metal poles, and the combination of vivid colour and soft texture makes for a space that's energising but still sympathetic to the room's proportions.

Just through the door, a long, thin space with no natural light needed a different kind of solution. Terrazzo floor tiles, a coral pink shower and bright white walls transformed it into a compact, uplifting ensuite that holds its own alongside the room next door.

The previous layout of this main bathroom was a challenge, with a dangerous double step down. So before we started with any kind of scheme, a spatial redesign was needed…

Our co-Director Kim was up to the challenge, raising the floor and sinking the bath into it.

A spacious shower with a custom glass enclosure, set to a half-height wall, now sits neatly under the eaves, and a refreshing green, blue and white stripe wraps the elements together into one space.

This bathroom is part of a wider home project born from two lives merging under one roof. Our clients arrived with a lifetime of collections between them, and our job was to find an aesthetic that could hold both.

Fresh white paint over the original pine woodwork and freeform laid tiles in place of the old orange floorboards gave every room, this one included, a fresh page to work from.

We hope you love this beautiful, fresh, curated bathroom as much as we do.

Every great kitchen needs a moment that feels a little special, and here, that’s the bar 🥃 ✨

Sitting alongside the central island, the same warm, deep oak was carried through, grounding the space and adding depth against the bright, open backdrop.

Above it, a beautiful bar pendant takes centre stage, casting a warm glow and giving the bar its own sense of occasion.

Neutral bar stools keep the look balanced and considered, letting the oak and the pendant do the talking… proof that the details make all the difference.
