When I first walk into a home to start my Assessment of the space I pretty much always start with Colour & Contrast. Basically building the colour palette. My first thought is to create something timeless that never dates but just matures with time, by adding warmth & textures and layering neutrals correctly. Then come the fundamental layers, depending on the client , with Artwork, Antiques , Stones, & Soft furnishings. Lighting is also key, natural light as well as layered lighting play a very big role within a space and also introduce all the warmth needed within particular areas. Incorporating architectural elements can also play a fundamental role because it gives a space presence & character. Placing the correct metals , bronze, antique brass, also add depth and warmth and create the most perfect setting & tone. It’s all in the details and the placement of each individual piece.

To layer a bed like a designer, focus on a 5-7 layer technique: start with a high-quality fitted sheet, add a flat sheet, followed by a plush duvet, a folded quilt at the foot for texture, and finish with a curated mix of pillows (euros, shams, decorative lumbar) and a casually draped throw blanket for a cozy, luxurious look. 1. Foundation: Start with a high-quality fitted sheet.
2. The Mattress Topper: Ensure a fluffy, luxurious look by adding a mattress topper.
3. Flat Sheet: Lay your flat sheet down. For a designer look, fold it down 1/3 of the way over your duvet.
4. Duvet & Coverlet: Use a duvet for a fluffy look, adding a quilt or coverlet at the base to bring in color and texture.
5. The Fold: Fold the duvet cover down by one-third to show the sheet and add a relaxed aesthetic.
6. Pillow Arrangement:
Back: Place 2-3 Euro shams
2@ against the headboard for height.
Middle: Position standard or king-size sleeping pillows in shams matching the duvet.
Front: Add 1-2 smaller decorative pillows or a long lumbar pillow (16’’x48’’) in the center.
7. Finishing Touches: Drape a chunky-knit throw blanket or a textured throw at the foot of the bed. Once dressed correctly, it will forever feel like home…..🏠
