Just back from a few days away in Somerset with my mum, son and visiting my friend and her little one.

Typical British weather, sun one minute, clouds the next, but honestly it didn't matter. A festival, the beach, some good walks, a few sites along the way, and just proper time together.

Exactly the reset I needed before September gets going. Looking forward to seeing what it holds.

Home Ed EcoKids Craft Clubs, starting w/c 14th September at the studio in Shepperton.

With 15 years' teaching experience, including as an Assistant Headteacher, plus extensive SEN experience and my own home ed tutoring, I've built these sessions based on hands on, proper creative crafting.

Sustainable, hands-on sessions for home-educated children, including SEN-focused sessions on Thursdays with a 1:3 ratio. Full details and pricing below, spaces are limited so get booking. 👇

You could. Loads of people try.

But there's a difference between watching someone else do it and having someone stood right next to you, telling you when your brush is overloaded or your coat's too thick, before it becomes a problem instead of after.

Plus a tutorial doesn't come with good company, a coffee in hand and someone to laugh with when it doesn't go to plan the first time.

Sometimes doing it with people is just better than doing it alone

Lorraine came in originally interested in Heels & Bubbles but ended up booking a whole day of furniture painting instead and I'm so glad she did.

She'd had a desk and chair sitting untouched for about a year, bought for her grandsonand wanted to bring it to life for him and her granddaughter too.

Before we even picked up a brush, we sat down over a cup of tea for a good fifteen or twenty minutes just talking through colour ranges, pairings and design ideas. That bit matters so much more than people realise, it's where the whole piece actually comes together.

We looked at transfers, decoupage, stencils, until a big crab stencil won her over instantly. Her grandson's obsessed with crabs, so it had to be that one.

For the red, we looked at Riad Red in the Frenchic Paint ❤️ Al Fresco range, but it was Flamenco in the Artisan range that won, that lovely chalky finish was exactly right.

Wise Old Sage for the green.

Then came the chair. To bring it together with the desk, we kept some of the original stripe detail but turned it green, added Wedding Cake for the luxurious off-white detailing and painted the base green too. Suddenly two very different pieces looked like they belonged together.

Genuinely one of my favourite transformations. Before and after in the photos, have a look.

Home Ed EcoKids Craft Clubs are coming to Vintage Chic ReLoved!

Starting w/c 14 September, I'm opening the studio doors every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for sustainable, upcycling-led craft sessions built just for home-educated children.

Every session turns everyday materials, old shoes, terracotta pots, Tetra Paks, into something brand new.

Small groups, real tools, hands-on making, and a different project each week.

🗓️ Tuesdays — Children who would be in KS1 & KS2 | 1:30–3pm | £15 per sessiom

🗓️ Wednesdays — Children who would be in KS3 | 1:30–3pm | £15 per session.

🗓️ Thursdays — SEN-focused | 1:30–3pm | £18 (max 6 children, 1:3 ratio)

Led by a former Assistant Headteacher with 15 years' classroom experience and extensive SEN specialism, so every child gets a session that's genuinely tailored to how they learn.

Today's paint and decoupage a serving tray workshop was one of those afternoons that just makes the job so lovely. 🌻

Two sisters came in, one down from Birmingham for the weekend just to do this with her sister, the other local. They already have a run of other workshops booked in together on Classbento, plus Christmas markets away together too. That's their thing, and honestly, what a thing to have.

They both went in with brilliant creative ideas and came out properly astounded at what they'd made. One tray, a gorgeous Van Gogh sunflower design, is a gift for the mother-in-law. The other, soft florals, is heading straight to their holiday cottage.

Fruit, mini doughnuts, tea and coffee while they painted and decoupaged the afternoon away, then off home to get ready for cocktails tonight. A whole day built around spending time together, can't think of a nicer way to do it.

If you and your sister (or your someone) fancy an afternoon like this, the tray workshops are just as fun in pairs.

Cast off — happy days! 🙌

But my elbow's still feeling a bit wobbly, so I've made the call to pause kids' camps next week and give it the proper time to settle.

I'll be back doing what I love in September with the adult workshops — see you then!
