A charming early Automatic Strike Vesta Lighter, c.1920s–1930s

A charming early Automatic Strike Vesta Lighter, c.1920s-1930s, in its original oxblood grained leather-covered brass case. Designed to securely hold a single match upright, the mechanism allows the user to strike the match by snapping the lid closed, engaging the integral steel striker plate. The lid is stamped “LIGHT” in gilt, with a pleasingly worn patina from years of handling and use.

Compact, tactile, and cleverly engineered, these pocket vestas were carried by smokers and outdoorsmen in the transitional period between traditional safety matches and fuel-fed lighters. This example remains mechanically functional, with good spring tension and a well-preserved leather covering showing honest age.

A fine piece of early 20th-century personal kit, both a practical tool and a collectible object of design.

Condition: Good vintage condition with light surface wear, working hinge and striker.

Dimensions: approx. 6cm tall

19th-Century Wall-Hanging Candle Box — Mahogany/ Hardwood with Shaped Crest & Green Baize Interior

A characterful 19th-century wall-hanging candle box, crafted in a warm hardwood, likely mahogany or a similar fine-grained timber, and retaining its original rural utility charm. Designed for practical domestic storage, these tall, narrow boxes were traditionally used to keep tallow or wax candles clean, dry and protected in households before the widespread adoption of oil and gas lighting.

This example features a classic shaped backboard with a circular suspension hole, allowing it to hang neatly on a cottage wall near a hearth or work area. The body is formed from simple but elegant hand-worked boards, with a narrow front opening for easy access. The interior retains an old green baize lining, a later 19th-century or early 20th-century addition often used to soften and insulate the contents while adding a refined finish.

The surface shows a rich, honest patina developed through decades of handling and household use. Its form remains timeless, equally pleasing today as a decorative wall piece or for storing letters, kindling spills, or small household items.

A charming and authentic piece of everyday 19th century domestic life.

Condition; Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. Light surface marks and minor historic imperfections to the timber, baize lining worn in places, all consistent with genuine period use. Structurally sound and displays beautifully.

Measurements; Height (box only): 15”, Height (including crest): 19.5”, Width: 6.5”, Depth: 5”

Late 18th – early 19th Century Burmese Bronze Rooster (O***m Trade Weight)

Late 18th – early 19th century (circa 1780–1830). Burma (Myanmar), possibly Shan States. Cast bronze - Lost-wax casting (cire perdue). 13” tall.

A rare and evocative Burmese cast bronze rooster, dating to the late 18th or early 19th century, almost certainly produced for use within the Southeast Asian o***m trade. The figure is modelled in a stylised zoomorphic form, standing alert with pronounced comb, folded wings, and a boldly articulated tail, all raised upon an integral rectangular base.

The bronze exhibits a rich, naturally developed patina with extensive wear to the high points, entirely consistent with sustained handling rather than static display. The surface retains the characteristic irregularities of hand-cast bronze, indicating traditional lost-wax manufacture.

Objects of this type were employed as commercial weights within Burmese and Shan trade networks, where o***m functioned as a high-value commodity. Animal forms were deliberately chosen, imbued with protective and symbolic meaning. The rooster, in particular, was associated with vigilance, honesty, and fairness in trade, making it an especially apt form for use in weighing valuable goods.

The sculptural language, base form, and casting technique place this piece firmly within the pre-colonial Konbaung Dynasty period, prior to British annexation. Comparable zoomorphic Burmese o***m weights are now scarce, with rooster forms notably rarer than more commonly encountered elephants or lions.

This piece stands as a powerful survival of Southeast Asia’s early commercial history, bridging ritual symbolism and mercantile practice.

Condition: Naturally worn with deep, untouched patination consistent with prolonged historic use.

Near Mint Huntley & Palmers Biscuit Tin - Cricket Scene After Sir David Wilkie c.1950s

A superb mid-century biscuit tin by Huntley & Palmers, featuring a nostalgic rural cricket scene after the work of Sir David Wilkie.

This charming design captures a classic countryside moment, with children gathered around a game of cricket, rendered in soft, painterly tones typical of postwar decorative tins. Produced by one of Britain’s most celebrated biscuit manufacturers, this example perfectly reflects the era’s appreciation for heritage, tradition, and pastoral life.

A beautiful addition to a vintage kitchen, country-style interior, or any collection of classic British advertising and packaging.

Excellent to near mint condition. Exceptionally well preserved with minimal signs of age. Colours remain vibrant and crisp throughout.

Presents to an outstanding standard and displays beautifully.

Vintage Van Melle “Propellers” Advertising Tin - Aviation Design c.1940s

A highly decorative vintage advertising tin by Van Melle, featuring a striking aviation-themed design promoting their “Propellers” confectionery.

The lid is beautifully illustrated with a twin-engine aircraft in flight, rendered in a distinctive period style, set against a softly toned sky. Combined with bold typographic branding, this creates a visually compelling piece that perfectly captures the spirit of early aviation and mid-century commercial design.

Unlike more common British biscuit tins, this example offers a continental European aesthetic and subject matter, making it particularly appealing to both advertising collectors and aviation enthusiasts alike.

A superb display piece with strong visual presence, ideal for industrial, vintage, or aviation-inspired interiors.

Good vintage condition with age-related wear. Noticeable scuffs, scratches, and paint loss throughout. Interior shows staining and age-related marks. Structurally sound and displays well.
Patina is consistent with age and enhances the overall character and authenticity of the piece.

A late Victorian Industrial-influenced Office/ Captain’s Chair, Made by Baxter & Company of Norwich

A chair designed for work, authority, and endurance.
Circa 1885-1910 and retaining its original ivorine maker’s label fixed beneath the seat, a rare and important detail that firmly anchors its provenance.

The chair is constructed entirely from solid hardwood, with a thick, shaped plank seat displaying rich, untouched patina from decades of use. Its architectural stance is defined by substantial turned legs united by a robust H-stretcher, a configuration chosen for stability in professional environments rather than domestic refinement.

The high spindle back is particularly striking: multiple crisply turned vertical spindles rise to a broad, gently curved crest rail with linear incised detailing. This combination of structure and subtle ornament reflects furniture made for institutional, maritime, or industrial office settings, where visual authority and durability were equally important. The form strongly evokes period captain’s chairs, clerk’s chairs, and engineer’s seating, intended for long hours at a desk or table.

Decoration here is not applied, but engineered, turning, proportion, and joinery doing the work of embellishment. The result is a chair that feels almost architectural in character, sitting confidently between Victorian craftsmanship and early industrial design.

Condition is excellent for its age. The surface finish is original, with wear consistent with honest use. The chair is structurally sound, visually powerful, and deeply atmospheric, equally at home in a period interior, a modern industrial space, or a design-led contemporary setting.

A rare, labelled example of British industrial-era furniture, made to be used and built to last.

1916 Dated G.E.R Railway Signal Box Stool - Original Industrial Railway Furniture

An authentic early 20th-century railway stool from the historic Great Eastern Railway, clearly stamped G.E.R 1916 and originating from a working signal box environment. This is a genuine piece of operational railway furniture, preserved in completely unrestored condition and displaying the honest wear of over a century of service.

Constructed from solid timber with traditional stretcher supports, the stool remains sturdy and functional. The original seat retains its aged canvas covering with horsehair padding beneath, offering a wonderful tactile reminder of its industrial past. The naturally worn surfaces, softened edges and working patina all contribute to its unmistakable authenticity and character.

Compact in form yet visually striking, it stands 25 inches tall, 14 inches wide and 12 inches deep.
This is a true survivor, untouched, unrefined, and rich in original character. Pieces with clear railway markings and documented working origins rarely appear in such honest condition.

A Late Victorian Dairy Ironstone Milk Pail And Original Patented Brass Cover by The Dairy Outfit Company Ltd of King’s Cross, London.

The domed hinged lid is stamped “The Adaptable Milk Pan Cover” with British patent number 11897/90, dating the design to 1890 and placing the piece within the professional London dairy trade at the turn of the 20th century.

Intended to keep milk hygienically protected while cooling and allowing cream to rise, this was practical working equipment rather than purely domestic ware.
The substantial ironstone body is transfer printed with the words “PURE MILK” above a pastoral cow vignette and finished with floral borders. The glaze displays overall age-related crazing and interior staining consistent with historic dairy use.

There are visible internal cracks to the ironstone, so the piece is recommended for display rather than functional use with liquids.

The brass lid and rim remain original and untouched, showing a deep, even patina with areas of verdigris internally from long-term contact with moisture and milk residues.

An increasingly hard-to-find survivor of Victorian dairy history, particularly complete with its stamped and patented London maker’s cover.

Measuring approximately 13” tall, 17” diameter.

17th Century Polychrome Carved Wood Corpus Christi

A striking 17th-century polychrome carved wood Corpus Christi, retaining traces of its original painted decoration and expressive hand-carved detail. The figure is depicted with a particularly elongated, naturalistic form and finely carved facial features, hair and drapery.

The surface retains areas of worn polychrome decoration, with the age and losses contributing to its character and appearance.

There are losses to the limbs, as shown, together with a further small loss to the edge/tie area of the loincloth. There are also some very minor splits consistent with age. Please study the photographs carefully for the full condition.

Dimensions: 15¾” (40cm) tall.

An evocative early religious carving with strong decorative presence, suitable for display as a fragmentary historic devotional sculpture.
