After dyeing, every one of our skeins of alpaca yarn is rewound by hand so that it looks as beautiful as it can. It takes a lot of time, particularly if it is an 800m skein of lace yarn!

I have been thinking about quicker ways to do this, but I really love using traditional ways of working and practicing the skills that for so long have been part of our heritage - and then I saw this. Made in Stalybridge in the early 1900s by Goodbrand &Co Ltd it is a beautiful old yarn wool winder/ tester.

Will it speed things up? I am not so sure, but I am going to enjoy cleaning it all up and having a go!

After a hectic few weeks it’s lovely to spend an hour on a Sunday morning sitting quietly knitting - it doesn’t happen very often!

The pattern is the Nelli scarf by knitted in our brushed alpaca yarn. It is looking lovely and just feels so soft.

Well what a fantastic weekend we have had at Yarndale! It’s been one of the best. Even the youngest member of our family had a great time!

A huge thank you to Kate and Emma and the Yarndale team and especially to Fiona Fiona Drake for spending the whole weekend on our stand. We have met so many lovely people, talked alpacas and yarn all weekend, and have come away feeling inspired to think about new ideas for designs and colourways. Exciting times ahead!
