Your engineered wood floor is tougher than you think. But one habit is quietly ageing it.

The culprit? A soaking wet mop.

Engineered wood and standing water don't get along. Wring your mop until it's barely damp, work in short sections, and wipe up spills the moment they happen. Even a small puddle left overnight can swell the boards at the joints.

While we're at it, two more things worth knowing.

βœ” Oil or lacquer? It matters a lot. Oiled boards need re-oiling now and then to stay protected. Lacquered ones don't. Put an oil-based product on a lacquered floor and you'll end up with a greasy film. Check your finish first, then clean accordingly.

βœ” Mind the micro-bevels. Those fine grooves along each plank edge love to collect grit and dust. A soft brush attachment on the vacuum, run along the grain, clears them out without scratching. Give stiff bristle heads a miss, they catch and lift the bevel edge over time.

Look after it now and the floor will look great for decades.

If you're not sure what finish you've got, or you're weighing up engineered wood in the first place, pop into the Eastbank Street showroom and we'll have a proper look with you. 🏑

Hard floors look cleaner. That doesn't mean they are.

Here's the bit most buyers never hear: carpet actually traps airborne dust, pollen, and pet dander in its fibres, holding them below breathing level until you vacuum them out. Hard floors let those same particles lift and circulate every time someone walks past.

"Easier to wipe" and "more hygienic" aren't the same thing. One is about the surface. The other is about the air in the room.

A good wool or stainfree twist can genuinely improve how a room feels to breathe in, especially in bedrooms and living rooms where you spend the most time.

Pop into the Eastbank Street showroom and we'll talk you through which pile suits your household 🏑

You've probably noticed it already. The evenings are pulling in a bit earlier now, even in August.

That's the moment a living room starts asking for something warmer underfoot.

Twist pile is our quiet favourite for this time of year. The fibres are twisted tight, which gives you that soft, springy feel without flattening out after a few months of proper use. Catch it in low evening lamplight and you'll see the texture come alive, all that depth and warmth a screen can never quite show you.

The one in this corner is a stainfree twist in a warm neutral. Practical for real family life, cosy for the darker nights on their way.

You can't feel a carpet through a phone. Run your hand across the pile in the showroom and you'll know in seconds whether it's the one. 🏑

We're on Eastbank Street, and there's a lot more inside than you might expect. Pop in and take your time.

Before anything changes, there's this.

A tape measure unrolled. A notebook with the elastic band still snapped round it. A work order scribbled out in pen on the workbench. Keys within reach.

Doesn't look like much, does it?

But this is the bit that decides whether the job goes right. The measuring. The noting down. The quiet thinking about doorways and uneven floors and how the room actually gets used.

No product yet, no fitters on their knees. This is the careful groundwork that means everything lands properly once it does.

It's why our free measuring visit exists. We come to you, we measure properly, we make the notes. Then you get an honest quote based on what's actually there, rather than a rough guess off a floor plan.

Most people never see this part. Fair enough. But it's where the care lives.

We're on Eastbank Street. Pop in when you're ready. 🏑

The builder's carpet package works out at roughly Β£2 a day for the first year. Then it starts to wear, and suddenly you're replacing it before you've even finished unpacking.

New-build developers fit to a budget, not to your hallway traffic or your family's shoes-off-at-the-door habits. It's the sort of thing nobody warns you about at handover. That's why the upgrade conversation is worth having before you move in, not two years after.

Spread a proper carpet over its real lifespan and the maths shifts completely. A hard-wearing wool twist at Β£900 fitted, lasting fifteen years, costs about 16p a day. Less than a coffee a week for the floor you walk on every single morning.

We do whole-house new-build packages across Southport, Formby, Liverpool, Manchester, Warrington and Preston. Bring your floorplan and we'll do the rest. No pressure, just honest advice and the full range to explore. 🏑

Light oak has a way of setting the whole mood of a room before you've even hung a picture. It's the warmth of it. The honey tones catching the daylight, the grain shifting from plank to plank so no two are quite the same.

Put it against a deep forest green wall and it glows. Put it against cool grey and it softens the whole thing right down.

That grain variation gives a room a bit of life that a flat, uniform finish never quite manages.

This is Ted Todd Kielder in the Classic Tones range, and it looks even better in person than in a photo. Colours read true, grain up close, the feel of a proper engineered board underfoot.

Pop into the Eastbank Street showroom and have a look for yourself. No hard sell, just honest advice. 🏑

New house around Southport, Ormskirk, Burscough or Formby? There's lots beruing built but whatever your vibe - cosy, warm, characterful, modern, brutalist - your flooring choices matter. You want something that invites you to actually use the space rather than just look at it.
..and did you know, you can get a discount from the builder by not having their generic carpets, taking a discount, and then talk to us about a whole house deal that suits you perfectly instead.

Pop into our showroom on Eastbank Street. We're a lot bigger than you might think from the outside. Have a browse, see what speaks to you. No pressure.

If you want to talk through your space properly, we do free measuring visits with no obligation. We come, we measure, we quote honestly. Then you decide.

Hallways take more footfall than any other room in the house. So this is where carpet choice actually matters.

Bare boards look smart in photos, but they echo, they chill the whole downstairs, and every set of keys dropped by the front door lands like a drum.

Swap them for a light beige loop pile and the space changes in an afternoon. Softer step, quieter house, warmer welcome.

Loop pile is the quiet workhorse here. Tight construction, hard-wearing, and forgiving with muddy shoes and school bags. Neutral beige keeps the walls and doors doing the talking.

Bring a photo of your hallway into the Eastbank Street showroom and we'll walk you through what will actually last underfoot. 🏑
