REAL PEOPLE BEHIND SMALL BUSINESSES 🫶🏻🌸
As my flower season comes to an end, unfortunately just the other day i experienced a not very nice and rude potential customer which just tainted my great year! Now I have to say this happens so little and I wasn’t going to give it the time of day but i think it’s important to share that behind the workings of a small business, are real life humans!
When you’re shopping locally, you’re not getting an AI bot or a multi million pound company that doesn’t care about a negative experience. You’re usually getting the business owner, the person that is working all the hours to keep the business thriving, the person that makes sure the business comes first and the person that wants to make their customers happy.
Unfortunately I received a rude voicemail from a potential customer complaining I wasn’t there when they wanted to turn up alongside insulting where I was located and that they weren’t happy and I should make it more obvious.
Unfortunately I run the business with just me and my dad. It’s solely me that makes up all the bouquets and flowery goods so sometimes I cannot be in two places at once. During the height of my season I open up Fridays and Saturdays 9-5 for you to come down and browse without pre ordering however the rest of the week I am contactable either via message/phone or website for pre orders. The reason I do this is because I’m often either taking flowers to the wholesalers, buying bulbs or compost, making a delivery and sometimes even having to attend doctor or hair appointments. Meaning I’m not at the shed 24/7.
I apologised to the customer about not being there but
the phrase comes to mind “you can please some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time”
Like I say, I hardly ever get problems like this and I know 99% of people are absolutely lovely and totally understand the workings of a small business. However it’s always important to be aware that we are only humans behind our businesses! 🫶🏻🌸💐
