It's not every day a staircase gets us invited to a launch party. 🥂

We recently had the pleasure of working with Henmores Young Ideas & Henmores in Uttoxeter, and what a space they have created. They had sisal laid in their showrooms, up the stairs and in the dressing rooms, and we finished the stairs with safety nosing. Not the bog standard kind either. These are beautiful ones that look like they belong there, and on a staircase that stunning, they really do. Just look at that oak from the top. 😍

It turned into one of those lovely local business moments. Henmores used us, so we used them, and then they invited us along to their launch party, which was amazing. There was so much to see on launch night and we found some stunning autumn clothing pieces that we couldn't resist. There is something special about local businesses backing each other, and we are so grateful to everyone at Henmores for making us feel so welcome.

Thank you for trusting us with your new space. It was a pleasure from start to finish, and Carl hasn't stopped talking about those stairs.

Fresh carpet an open plan living room, cosy Autumn mornings in Uttoxeter. 🏡

It feels like ages since I shared a proper flooring post, so I am super excited to show you what we have been up to.

This is Cormar Primo Tweeds in Brownstone, fitted by Simon. A warm, soft toned tweed that works beautifully with the cream walls and keeps the whole space feeling calm and cosy, which is exactly what you want as the evenings draw in.

The long room runs through the archway without a break, so a good measure and a neat fit make all the difference, our Simon did a lovely job.

Its that time of year where you start thinking about carpet for your living room and were ready for you. Pop in and see samples at either showroom, or book a free home measure.

It took a village to open a shop in a village 🤍

After a day of decompressing and letting Saturday really settle in, we want to say the biggest thank you to everyone who came down to see us. To everyone who queued, booked in for a measure, brought rugs and welcomed us to the village, it was so lovely to meet you all and it made our hearts so happy. Every bit of the hard work was worth it, and we can't wait to bring something a bit different to Eccleshall.

We also couldn't let the weekend go by without thanking the people who got us there, because we really wouldn't be here without them.

Simon from SGM Property Maintenance, whose project management got us to the finish line. Our joiner Andy, for all of the carpentry. Craig our electrician, who put up with my antique brass obsession, and our plasterer and plumbers, who also questioned my copper pipe choices!

The Kings Arms , who kept us fed and watered throughout, and Flour & Co Bakehouse, who do the best sausage and egg sandwiches and treated us to a welcome to the village coffee on Saturday morning. Andy from Three Pillars W**e , who brought us a beautiful bottle of fizz on the evening of opening day, which was just what we needed. Web Goddess Ltd , who lent us her lovely lads to help strip the walls and do the jobs we just couldn't.

Brockway Carpets , Woodhalls and Project Floors International , who got our beautiful display stands to us on time and stocked, so we had amazing flooring to show you. Sally, who created the most stunning balloon arch to welcome everyone, and Simply Scrumptious Cakes & Classes by Liz Berwick , whose cupcakes were divine.

From and very tired, but very excited and very happy Bestbind, thats a wrap, this time tomorrow we will have completed our first day in our own second shop, no big deal (it is a genuinely massive deal and we haven't slept properly all week).

Before the doors open, we need to say thank you. To our team, who have painted, snagged, held the fort and kept everything moving while we've been up ladders in Eccleshall.

To our family and friends, who have fed us, cheered us on, provided childcare and doggie care and put up with us talking about nothing else for months. And to the other local businesses who have welcomed us, helped us out, provided there services and shared their advice and their time.

We couldn't have done this without every single one of you, and we mean that completely 🤍

Eccleshall opens at 10am tomorrow and we cant wai to share this day with you, there's cupcakes and a glass of prosecco on the house, first come first served, so don't be the one strolling in at half twelve wondering where all the cake went.

Three days. We can't quite believe we're writing that 😭🎉

The to do list was meant to be shrinking by now, and it has somehow done the opposite. Samples are arriving daily, the walls are finally filling up, the signage goes up tomorrow, and this week is entirely cleaning, snagging and sweating the small stuff. I may or may not be on borrowed time if Carl has to put up one more chargeable light 💡😂

Big shout out to Sally, who has painted Eccleshall with us, held the fort back at base, ploughed through your binding and generally sorted us all out. We couldn't have done it without her, and honestly we'd be lost without the whole team around us.

Your motorhome is at the other end of the country, can we still carpet it? Carl says yes 🚐

This is last Friday's Ask A Carl, which got swallowed whole by Eccleshall being so busy, so you're getting it on a Monday instead, and it's a good one 🙌

This week Sally asked Carl about a customer who lives the other end of the country and wants a new set of motorhome carpets, and the answer is yes, we can absolutely do it, there are two ways.

Option one, you post us your templates, we copy them, make your brand new set and post it straight back to you.

Option two, make a holiday of it. Bring the van down to us, we'll template it while you're here, you go and enjoy the trip, and we post the finished set back once it's done.

Either way, you choose your carpet colour from our website, or if you'd rather not scroll we'll email you the colours so you can pick from the comfort of your sofa.

So no excuses about distance, your tired van is not too far away for us 😂

YOU'RE INVITED!

This Saturday 10th October, 10am, our second showroom opens its doors in Eccleshall, and if you've been following along with us getting it ready, you'll know how long we've been waiting to say that.

Nine years we've been fitting flooring and binding carpets from our base at Amerton Farm, and from Saturday you'll find us at 12 Stafford Street too. We've worked hard behind the scenes to bring you a flooring experience with a difference, and we cannot wait for you to see it.

Carl's been in and out of this place so many times over the last few months he's basically got a loyalty card for the chippy across the road, and I've become slightly addicted to the mezze board at the Kings Arms 🙌

The welcome we've had getting it ready has been lovely too, people popping their heads round the door to say hello before we've even opened. We already feel like we belong here.

Best review we've ever had, and it didn't come with any stars, just a very fast trip down the stairs.

We fitted this herringbone runner for our own colleague Sally this week, and the second Carl packed his tools away her gang gave it the full family test. Straight down the stairs, arms out, giggling the whole way, absolutely delighted with the new carpet under him.

Her daughter had already done her bit earlier too, camped out on the top step the entire time Carl was fitting it, watching every edge like she didn't quite trust him to get it right. She let him off eventually.

That's a more thorough inspection than most of our jobs get.

We absolutely loved creating this one and even better when Sal can say she made it 🙌

WE HAVE LIGHTS 💡

That's me flicking the switch on our own electrics in Eccleshall like I've just won the lottery, not turned on a light bulb. Carl thinks I'm being dramatic. I am absolutely being dramatic and I don't care.

After months of staring at bare wires, plasterboard dust in places plasterboard dust should never be, and a building that's looked more like a skip than a shop, something actually switched on and worked. Genuinely felt like a milestone.

Second fix electrics are done, the plumber's in this week finishing the sink and getting the radiators plumbed in, and the floor (our floor, obviously, we're not about to put someone else's flooring down) is finally ready to go in. We are so close we can almost taste it. Mostly plaster dust, but still.

So here it is, the bit we've been dying to tell you. Our Eccleshall showroom opens its doors on the 10th of October at 10am and we want to see you there. Come and have a nose round, see what all the fuss has been about, say hello, watch Carl pretend he isn't nervous.

Right, I have wanted to show you this one for ages, our Uttoxeter job, because I've been staring at the photos on my phone for about a week now like a weirdo.

The house has this gorgeous black and white Victorian tiled hallway floor, the kind you genuinely cannot buy new no matter how much you spend, plus high skirtings and panelled doors throughout. The sort of house where you walk in and think "just WOW."

So no pressure on Carl then.

Our lovely customer went with a herringbone marble carpet for the stairs, something with enough character to actually earn its place next to those tiles rather than just sitting there looking cheap by comparison. Carl bound the edges in black using Jaspa Woven tape, and honestly seeing that crisp black line running up against the white woodwork and down onto the tiled floor, makes you stop.

Fitted onto short pin gripper for a proper grip on every step, with Cloud 9 contract underlay underneath because this staircase is going to get a lot of use over the years and it needs to still look this good in ten years, not just for the photos.

Two days of fitting and Carl came back looking proper pleased with himself, which doesn't happen often, he's his own harshest critic.

If you've got a period home and you're nervous about flooring that might clash with everything you love about it, this is exactly the kind of job to send our way.
