Lesson learned this week: "we'll just strip the wallpaper ourselves and help soeed things up abit" is not always great idea it sounds like, especially not with a hallway ceiling this height.

Carl and I have spent more hours than we'd like to admit up ladders last week, while Simon's been quietly getting on with the actual sensible jobs.

We're at first fix now too, so plumbers and electricians are working out where every pipe and cable needs to go in a building that's clearly never heard of a straight line.

I've also started properly choosing radiators, ones that suit the age of the place rather than whatever's cheapest and easiest. Carl thinks I'm being difficult, i think I have standards 🤣

The old offices upstairs are being stripped back too, so there's mess on pretty much every floor at this point, which feels about right for where we are.

And yes, we know everyone wants to know when the doors are actually opening. We're loosely, very loosely, eyeing up the first weekend of October. Don't hold us to it, building sites have a habit of laughing at deadlines, but we wanted you to have a rough idea rather than nothing at all.

Bank holiday weather forecast: 50% chance of sunshine, 100% chance of someone's motorhome breaking down on the M6.

If you're heading off this weekend, first of all, we're jealous. Second of all, have you checked your carpets lately? Nothing ruins a bank holiday getaway quite like realising your motorhome floor still smells faintly of last summer's questionable camping stove incident.

We've had an absolute rush of motorhome carpets through the workshop this week, everyone clearly had the same idea of sorting it before the long weekend.

Removable, made to measure, and genuinely simple enough that you could still squeeze one in before Friday if you're quick.

Whether you're off in the motorhome, staying local with a barbecue you'll definitely need a coat for, or just enjoying an extra day off doing absolutely nothing, tell us your plans, we're nosy and slightly jealous either way.

Can we talk about hallways for a second?

This is herringbone LVT from Project Floors, laid straight through from the back door, and I have genuinely become one of those people who stops to look at their own floor and questioning my options because i have fell in love with this one.

Never thought I'd be that person.

It's not real wood, but it looks it, and more importantly it lives nothing like it. Mop it, let the dog charge through, let the kids spill a drink without the world ending, it honestly doesn't care.

If you've got a busy household and you've always wanted that warm wood look without babying it every day, this might be the answer.

Can you spot what's missing from this staircase?

Have a proper look... no gaps, no exposed wood peeking out either side, just herringbone carpet running edge to edge with a sharp black binding tying the whole thing together.

Most stair runners leave a strip of wood showing on both sides, but this one goes the full width, top to bottom, no shortcuts.

Simon's down there finishing off the very last step, and if you ask him he'll tell you herringbone patterns are equal parts satisfying and stressful to get lined up perfectly on every single stair, but he does it perfectly, deffinatly worth it though to get that finish.

We don't get asked for fully fitted stair runners nearly as often as we should, most people don't even know it's an option until they see it done properly. Now you do.

Ever had a job go so well you treated yourself afterwards? That's basically what happened here.

Sally Montague Hair Group have just opened up in Uttoxeter and wanted their new salon to properly pop from the moment you walk in.

Carl went out to measure, and we ended up going with a Sisal Mini Boucle in Titanium, part of the Cloud 9 contract range, tough enough for a busy salon floor without looking anything less than beautiful.

Full glue down for a completely secure fit, finished with black Jubilee stair rods and black cotton tape for a proper classic edge.

Carl fitted it himself (the king of stair runners 👑), step by step, no rushing it, because a new salon floor needs to survive daily traffic from day one.

And while we were there, obviously, I ended up booking in my hair to be done, because when you're stood in a hair salon all day, self control only stretches so far (and this place is absolutely stunning)

This is exactly the kind of job we love. Local business supporting local business, everyone walking away happy, quite literally in my case with better hair than I walked in with.

Thank you Rosie and Sarah, you've got a stunning new staircase to welcome people into the salon, and I've got a haircut I absalutly love.

With all the rubbish we're pulling out of the Eccleshall shop this week, it's got me thinking...... controversial in this industry, apparently, but a decent carpet offcut should never end up in a skip.

We see it all the time on normal jobs too.

Perfectly good carpet, just because it's the end of a roll or too small for the room it was cut for, straight in with the rubble. Feels like such a waste when it could just as easily become a rug, a runner, or a doormat with a bit of binding.

Watching our own skip fill up this week has made us even more stubborn about this one.

If it can be bound, it should be.

Well, this happened last week, and today of all days feels like the perfect moment to share it. 🔑

Today marks nine years of Bestbind. Nine years ago we was cutting carpet samples on our garage floor at home and binding to the early hours, genuinely unsure if this business was going to work.

And now, on our actual birthday, we get to tell you that Carl and I picked up the keys to our second showroom in Eccleshall.

It'll be a proper flooring and carpet binding showroom, just like Amerton Farm, and right now it needs a huge amount of work to get there. New floors, new fittings, a lot of hard graft from the whole team, but we already know exactly what it's going to become, and we cannot wait to show you.

We are beyond excited, a little bit terrified, and so ready to get stuck in. We'll be sharing the whole renovation here as it happens, warts and all.

Nine years of Bestbind, and somehow we're only just getting started. Thank you to everyone who's supported us along the way, this one's for you 🧡

Keep an eye out, there's a couple of new faces on the roads around Staffordshire. Well, new van anyway.

Vintage in style, unmistakably us, and the brilliant team at HEX Graphics somehow made it even better than we pictured in our heads.

You know its got to be good when every journey your husband says 'shall we go in the van' 🙄

Right, i'm going to say something a bit cheeky: bare wooden stairs are more dangerous than most people want to admit.

Kids belting up and down in their socks, the dog taking the corner too fast, someone half asleep stumbling down at 6am. A stair runner isn't just there to look nice, it's grip exactly where you need it most.

We're not saying rip your stairs apart tomorrow. We're just saying we've fitted enough of these to know they genuinely earn their keep.
