Purple heart is a funny wood. It starts off a standard woody brown colour but when left in sunlight for a few days turns an amazing purple colour all by itself. This is its natural colour in the second picture, no dyes, etc. were used, just some clear polish to make it shine.

todays turnings have produced a red and green bolt action pens. The picture isn't showing the green well, it is a deep green not as light as in the picture. A purple heart blank is on the lathe waiting to turn purple. when you first cut purpleheart it is a lightish brown but turns purple when exposed to light.

My first attempt at a hybrid pencil, wood and acrylic. The wood is stabalised beech with a black & hint of green acrylic. I'm very happy with how this came out.

Today's results so far are 2 pencils, but these are covered in my own resin. I am very happy with the results.
