For the last few years I’ve fought hard to keep my prices as affordable as possible.
Even when the price of silver increased dramatically, I’ve absorbed as much of that cost as I could because I genuinely believe jewellery making and learning a creative skill should be accessible to as many people as possible.
Unfortunately, life as a small independent business owner means sometimes circumstances force difficult decisions.
My lease renewal has recently come through and the rent on the premises has increased by 33%.
After nearly three years at Little Underbank, the business has finally reached the point where it covers its monthly expenses. The reality is that I’m still not paying myself a wage, and every penny the business makes goes straight back into keeping the doors open, buying materials, maintaining equipment and creating the classes and jewellery that you see.
Moving premises isn’t a realistic option. Relocating would require deposits, upfront rent and fit-out costs that simply aren’t available right now.
The success and popularity of Little Underbank has brought more demand for commercial property in the area, and with that comes higher rents for independent businesses like mine.
As a result, I’ll be reviewing my pricing over the coming weeks to help cover these increased costs and ensure Stockport Jewellery School can continue to grow and remain part of the community.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the last ten years. Every class booking, jewellery purchase, recommendation, share, comment and kind word has helped keep this little independent business going.
I don’t take that support for granted, and I’m incredibly grateful for every single one of you. ❤️
