The humble teaspoon. 🥄

Why am I posting about this, you ask?

Well, we don’t offer a huge spread of teaspoons. Butter knives, yes. Teaspoons, no. We offer this one because it’s become a firm favourite.

And we’re quietly confident it might make you realise that not all cutlery is created equal.

Start small. One spoon. ☕

If you love it as much as we think you will, then you can build the rest of the set from there, all available in store and online. This is from the Robert Welch - Malvern collection!

We could waffle on about balance, finish, weight and how it feels in the hand…

But ultimately, it’s a spoon. 😂

A very good spoon.

And if you’re going to take the trouble to make good food, decent cutlery seems a pretty sensible way to finish the job.

A good knife isn’t just about how sharp it looks. 🔪

It’s how it feels in your hand. The balance. The blade length. Whether it’s actually right for the job you’re asking it to do.

Then there’s the steel itself. How hard it is, how well it holds an edge and how easy it is to bring back when it eventually needs sharpening.

And that last bit? A little bit “how long is a piece of string” 😄 It depends on the steel, how often you use it and, importantly, what you’re cutting on.

Glass? Marble? Stainless steel? Please don’t. 😬

And while we’re here, dishwashers are a no from us too.

“Dishwasher safe” might mean you can. It doesn’t mean you should.

Hand wash. Dry straight away. Store safely. Your knives will thank you for it.

We keep a carefully chosen selection of knives from makers around the world, not just the usual off-the-shelf stuff, and we’re always looking to add something interesting.

So if you want proper advice rather than just picking one because the handle looks nice, head down and see us at Trentham Gardens. We’ll help you choose the right knife for the way you actually cook.

Just because it’s now freezing cold doesn’t mean we’re giving up on the BBQ. 🔥🥶

Smoked haddock, butter, milk and bay leaves. Simple, comforting and exactly what we want when the temperature drops. 🐟🧈 it’s also fragrance free in the great outdoors 😀

Served with soda bread for dipping, mopping and making sure absolutely none of that buttery milk gets left behind. That’s my choice anyway. 🥖

Stick one on your dish before reheating in the microwave, slap one on a frying pan instead of hunting for the right lid, or even pop them in the oven (ideally on a pot).

Dishwasher safe, BPA free and available in some rather fabulous designs.

They’re practical, reusable and ready to brighten up your kitchen table… although I will add, I suspect they’ll look even better next summer when we’re eating outside again! ☀️😂

And yes, they make a rather lovely little gift for someone who has everything… apart from a lid that looks like a poppy or a tomato. 🌺 🍅

The nights are darker, it’s (sort of) getting cooler 🍂 and the oven is definitely earning its keep again.

We offer a great selection of oven dishes in different materials, shapes and sizes, all built to last.

How passionate can you be about an oven dish? Very, as it turns out. 😄

Robert Welch Malvern has remained a firm favourite with our customers, whether it’s for everyday eating, Sunday lunch or getting the posh stuff out because somebody’s coming round. 😏

Hop on down to Trentham Gardens for a cracking day out. Picnic yourselves into oblivion in the gardens 🧺🌳 and don’t forget to call into the only independent cookshop in Stoke… and probably for quite a few miles unless you’re heading towards Shrewsbury or Lichfield. 😉

Grab a new bit of kitchen kit, a knife that’ll actually cut something 🔪, a frying pan that isn’t ready for retirement 🍳, or a gift for that mate next door… you know, the one who’s always cooking.

And, of course, enjoy the essential mooch. You never know what you’ll find… usually something you never knew you needed. 😄
