Today has really knocked me for six, and if I’m honest, I’m struggling.

For the first time in many, many years, I’ve had my second big cancellation for my decorating business within a month. I know times are difficult for everyone at the moment, and I completely understand that circumstances change — but that doesn’t make it any easier when it’s your livelihood.

I’ve been doing this for 24 years, and I’ve always built my business on being genuine, fair and, most importantly, trustworthy. I’ve never been about ripping anyone off or taking advantage of people. I’ve worked hard over the years, built relationships with some amazing customers and have always tried to give people a service I can be proud of.

So when something like this happens, especially twice in such a short space of time, it really does make you question things. Today’s cancellation has honestly nearly pushed me over the edge.

I’m not posting this for sympathy. I suppose I just needed to say how I’m feeling because behind every small business is a real person, and sometimes the pressure gets a bit much.

To everyone who has supported me, recommended me, trusted me with your homes and businesses, and kept me going over the last 24 years — thank you. It genuinely means more than you know. ❤️

Hopefully, this is just a bump in the road and better days are around the corner. 🙏

I don’t like to moan or air my dirty laundry on here, BUT…

When I make the effort to quote for your work, you agree to that quote, and I then keep weeks of a month clear for you ready for when you get your keys, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a little communication.

If your plans change, there’s a problem, or you simply change your mind, that’s absolutely fine — just let me know.

What isn’t okay is ignoring messages and calls and not even bothering to tell me.

As a small business, keeping a large part of a month free for a job isn’t something we can just easily replace at short notice. Those weeks could have been filled with other work, and ultimately, situations like this can have a real impact on a small business.

I’ll be brutally honest — I’m angry and disappointed that you felt it was okay to handle things this way.

Anyway… rant over! 😅

But please remember: behind every small business is a person trying to make a living. A simple message to say “my circumstances have changed” takes two minutes, and it can make all the difference.

This is how a small business can be seriously affected within minutes.
