We are enthralled to now present a new series of folk horror / horror genre films, both classic and modern, screening straight from the pottery on our big screen. Come view the first: John Carpenter’s ㄒ卄乇 千ㄖᎶ
🎃
House of Goblin’s O.G. Incentive was to conduct events, workshops & happenings centred around -not just specific- but broad notions of soil, clay, substrate & the Earth at large: what can be made from it, what it harnesses. As an establishment working with clay, we are fascinated by the traditions where fundament has inspired & incorporated myth & lore to animate & vivify. Folk horror film is an avenue of expression that utilizes these interests & brings the timeless traditional of narrative, belief and imagination to animation.
🎃
We will be running folk horror screenings once a month throughout winter, starting this Halloween season & always on a Sunday.
🎃
This is a chance to connect and re-connect with UK / foreign independent productions & big budget movies.
See you there.

CORN DOLLY WORKSHOP
🌀
Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring traditional straw craft, harvest folklore and some seasonal spook with of . Book through our website, link in bio.

Come and weave at the threshold of winter, where golden fields meet gathering shadows, and each twist of straw becomes an offering to the turning year....

As the nights draw in, the leaves fall, and the veil between worlds thins, it’s time to celebrate Samhain; the ancient festival marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter.

You’ll have a go at creating a 5 or 7 straw spiral weave, transforming a handful of golden stems into either a neck or a harvest trophy.

There’ll also be the opportunity to make your own harvest mask - something to wear, hang on the wall, or leave somewhere to keep an eye on things while the nights get darker. Inspired by seasonal disguises, folklore and the curious traditions surrounding Samhain, your creation can be as wild, terrifying or beautiful as you like.

This is a chance to slow down, work with natural materials, have a good natter and get creative with traditions that connect us to the turning seasons. No previous weaving experience is needed - just bring your curiosity, your imagination, some patience and a willingness to experiment.

Come and celebrate the turning of the year with straw, stories and a little Samhain mischief. Witches, hags, crones, boggarts folklore enthusiasts and curious crafters all welcome.

In May of this year, during NeoAncients festival, we made a dinner service for an exhibition at HOG curated by Legion Projects based on the 1967 low fantasy novel The Owl Service by Alan Garner.
🦉
Our dinner service is a tribute to the character Blodeuwedd -the driving force in the novel- & takes cue from the forms of thistle, meadowsweet & broom; a full ceramic flower when stacked, & an unfurling display when pulled apart for culinary use.
🦉
The Owl Service is a novel which focuses on an old, forgotten tea set found in a Welsh attic that draws three teenagers into reliving the tragic, ancient Welsh myth of Blodeuwedd. Blodeuwedd is the protagonist in the Welsh story the Mabinogion which concerns a woman conjured out of broom & meadowsweet flowers who betrayed her husband Lleu and was punished by being transformed into an owl.
