⚠️ Trigger warning: fertility issues
I feel so frightened to post this. I’ve literally never been this vulnerable on here, but if sharing my story can spread awareness to even one person, then I feel like I’ve done my part.
Today marks the end of World Childless Week 2026, which aims to raise awareness of those who are childless not by choice (CNBC).
Last year I tried to freeze my eggs, hoping it would give me a little more time and a little more hope of having children of my own one day. Unfortunately, it wasn’t successful, and it’s been something I’ve really struggled to process.
And honestly, a huge part of me doesn’t even feel like I have the right to be upset. I know there are women who have been through so much more than I have, and in the grand scheme of things, I know my situation is not the worst thing that could happen. How dare I feel bad?
But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t felt heavy.
I’m not sharing this for sympathy. I’m sharing it because I really want people to think.
Think before asking your recently married friend if they’re trying for a baby.
Think before asking your single friend if she’s found anyone yet.
Think before presuming all women want children. Not everyone does, and that is absolutely okay too.
Think before blanket-DM’ing accounts on here inviting them to join your mum and baby squad (literally on weekly basis…).
You just never know what someone is privately going through, what they may have lost, what they may be desperately hoping for, or what they may have chosen not to have.
It’s not looking particularly good for me right now. I’m single, knocking on 40, and my attempt to preserve my fertility didn’t work.
But after therapy (which I highly recommend if you’re in a similar position and able to access it), I still have hope.
Hope for a happy ending - even if it looks a little different to how I’d imagined it. Sending all my love to anyone who needs it right now 🤍
