Sorting through a year's worth of architectural salvage and stumbled upon these: original Hertwig & Co. nodder parts and torsos. 🏺

There is so much history in these "dug" pieces. Some are still caked with the earth they were found in, others show the delicate molding that made Hertwig famous in the late 19th century. Whether you're a restorer or an artist looking for that perfect, haunting focal piece, these nodders have stories to tell.

Dear fellow collectors and makers, There’s something wonderfully magical about holding a fragment that has survived over 160 years underground… Today I’m thrilled to offer these authentic lots of antique German porcelain doll parts – arms and legs, lovingly mixed, broken and beautifully damaged. Produced circa 1860-1880 near the famous Limbach and Hertwig factory sites in Germany, these pieces were excavated from an old dump. Each one carries the patina and history of the golden age of porcelain dollmaking. Sizes vary from a delicate 0.86" (22 mm) up to 2.44" (80 mm). Available in lots of 20, 50 or 100 pieces – the last photos show a sample of 20. These are perfect artists’ supplies for altered art, assemblage, mixed media projects, jewelry making and dreamy shabby chic creations. Pair them with reclaimed wood, finials, nodders or other porcelain fragments for truly unique pieces. Oh my dears… ✨
Every now and then a truly special piece finds its way to the Shabbywonder workshop, and today I’m completely enchanted.
This is a large antique china shoulder head by the renowned Hertwig & Co of Germany. Her gentle face, soft half-closed eyes, and those perfectly sculpted low bow curls make her look like she’s just stepped out of a Victorian nursery. The creamy white porcelain still carries that beautiful vintage glow, and you can feel the history in every curve.
She has two mounting holes at the back, making her perfect for wall display, a custom doll body, or as a sculptural piece in a collector’s cabinet.

There’s something incredibly moving about holding these small porcelain fragments in your hand. These are authentic antique INRI plaques — the sacred inscription once placed above the figure of Christ on old crucifixes.
