The Shropshire Seaweed Company Organic seaweed fertiliser & soil improvers, made in Shropshire for healthier soil and plants. Helping UK gardeners grow the natural way since 2005.

Everything we make helps build healthy, living soil, because strong plants start from the ground up. Over 100 miles from the nearest coastline, Shropshire is the last place you'd expect to find a company that makes products from seaweed. When we tell local people what we do, they often look at us like we're completely mad! However, here in the heart of rural England, we do think we know a thing or two about organic living and 'the good life' - which is what drove us to develop our seaweed product range.

Getting out into the garden, even for a few minutes a day, does you and your garden the world of good.

Autumn is one of the most important times to work on your soil. It’s a long-term investment: it improves structure and helps the soil hold onto water and nutrients, so it’s ready to support stronger growth when spring comes round.

It’s not just good for the soil, though, it’s good for you too. Whether you want to improve your ground, get ahead for next year or simply reconnect with nature and slow down, a few minutes outside makes a difference.

What’s your favourite autumn job in the garden? 👇

Add it once, this autumn, and your garden will still be benefiting from it years from now.

Biochar is a stable form of carbon. Once it’s in your soil, it stays there for decades. Its porous structure gives roots air, holds onto water and nutrients, and becomes a lasting home for the soil life your plants depend on. After the summer we’ve had, our soil certainly needs the support.

The key is to charge it first. Fresh biochar works like an empty sponge, and it will pull nutrients from your soil until it’s full. So fill it before it goes in:

1️⃣ Mix your biochar with liquid seaweed, frass or compost
2️⃣ Leave it to charge for a couple of days, or even better, a couple of weeks
3️⃣ Work it into your beds or potting mix

Do it once and your soil benefits season after season.

Save this for your next autumn job list.

We shared snippets of our visit to this summer, but their story deserved telling in full. Here it is.
Kate turned an acre of empty land into a working flower farm in less than 12 months.

As Kate explains, they’ve got a busy winter ahead, and we’re looking forward to catching up next year to see:
🐌 whether frass made a difference to their slugs
💐 how the seedlings they’re nurturing this winter grow into bouquets
🌱 how much that acre has changed again

The change of season means a big shift in how and what we’re working on here at TSSC. In summer, our focus is on fulfilling orders: hand filling, packing and loading delivery vans.

Our winter looks a little different as orders slow and we can focus on the little details that make an impact. And this winter, we’re getting ready for our biggest year yet.

We’re working on:
🌱 Bringing on our new customer growing trial participants
📦 Improving every step of your order, from browsing online to arriving on your doorstep
🧪 Developing new products shaped by what you’ve told us you’re looking for
🌍 Partnerships with people working to make a positive impact on our planet

Next season will be our most impactful yet, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Saving seed is simple and incredibly satisfying when you know how. Here are three tips to help you get the best from your seed 🌱

1. Wait until the seed heads have fully matured on the plant before removing them. Dry them, then store the seed in an airtight container for next year.
2. Save seed from your healthiest, strongest plants. They’re the ones best suited to your soil and your conditions, so you’re passing on the traits you want.
3. Don’t bother saving seed from F1 varieties. They’re a cross between two different parent plants, so their seed won’t grow true. You’ll get unpredictable results that rarely match the plant you saved from.

Ask us for recommendations of the easiest seeds to save, for both food and flowers in the comments below.

Save this for later 📌

You can see the difference, and your plants can feel it.

This summer, you’ve told us about stronger, more resilient plants, bigger harvests, fewer pests and diseases, and better drought tolerance.

The difference goes further than you can see on the surface.
