The Cherished Wall (previously Cranstoun Creation) has been emerging and improving. I have this dream that my lovely customers adorn they home with beautiful Art, Memories and more and I want to help with making that happen! I have a few ways to assist in making that dream a reality...

I offer a Bespoke Picture Framing service using conservation methods with over 10 years experience in bespoke f

raming. I am Laura Cranstoun and I am the person who you will meet to discuss your framing needs if you decide to book an appointment with us. I hand-make every frame, bespoke to your requirements and offer my advice and knowledge on the best way to mount, preserve and showcase your Artwork, Print, Photos, Textiles and Objects. I can also now offer a print to frame service - where I can take your digital images and then print and frame for you. Alongside this is a professional 'touch-up'/ crop/ colour balance service to get the best possible print from your digital image. I can also offer a scan service for creating a digital image of an important photo/artwork for later reproduction. Later this year when the website is live - my beautiful artwork will also be available to customise into personalised Art for you or as gifts for loved ones. This is something I'm really passionate about and am working hard on getting the quality and range as perfect and inspiring as possible. If you have an enquiry or would like to discuss your project or framing needs in more detail - then call or email me so we can get connected.

I had a few jobs to do so tidied up the studio, mega hoovered and I made some frames!

I also got round to finally doing this!

So, Orange or dark Blue? Or maybe something else?

Tell me below!👇🏻

Time for a change …

I haven’t been actively picture framing for a while now - new jobs, new type of life and trying to not be things I might have been before. Probably a mid-life thing 🙄… yes I’ve even stopped dying my grey hair 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

But I have (tentative) new plans. I’m not going to spill them all until they are firmly routed in (actually going to happen) real life. But a first start was to freshen up my beloved studio.

She is a good 12 years old - one of first projects when we bought our first house and before the children.

As a framing work space she was compact and perfect for what I needed. I’ve painted/ collaged/ framed / taught framing students and even home-schooled during Covid in here - and it’s gathered memories and junk! I’m a total hoarder of wood and circular shaped things and many many plastic pots.

Several tip runs, a new flooring and a fresh lick of paint is going to cheer the old girl up (both of us!) and get her ready for the next venture.

The slight warming and occasional sun break through the clouds is enough for us to think Spring may actually return- and with it reignite our dreams!

It’s hot, the kids are off the various fun places… so out comes the cyanotype 😍 🥵 🙌

Just having a cold cider whilst these lovelies soak up the rays. I’m actually prepping ahead of my workshop that I am running with the delightful Emily .

We have two workshops on Wednesday 7th August. The morning session is cyanotype on fabric, and making a lovely bag 😍 and…. In the afternoon we shall be getting on the sewing machines to create a lovely bit of patchwork using cyanotype fabrics and quilting over in a free motion style.

These samples can either then be made into a cushion attached to the bag or just simply frame for you wall 🤩😍

All materials supplied and suitable all ranges of ability as full instructions will be given.

Please head over to and follow the link in Emily’s bio to book.

A fun creative day of workshops on beautiful local surroundings 🥰

Come join in 😘 ###

I’ve been painting fabric and ripping up to get prepping for a future Abstract Textiles Collage workshop.

Thoroughly enjoyed painting the cotton with acrylic- but tearing it up is even more satisfying 😍

Not sure how this will come together yet, but the sewing machine will be on hand today while I have a play around with the composition.

Loving the colour palette 😍

Life drawing 😱

To be completely honest life drawing fills me with a bit of horror…. As much as I’m full on creative, I’ve never ever considered myself a competent drawer.

And because I’ve always loved colour, pattern, texture and abstraction - I suppose I’ve never needed to hone this skill 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔 or maybe I’m afraid? Afraid to fail is probably true.

When a good friend mentioned she was planning on attending a local artists life drawing sessions, she suggested I come along. It’s been a good 20+ years since I did life drawing as a student. (I wasn’t very good then either 🤭)

Here are my efforts from last week…. And I’m okay with it. I need to work on my inability to focus for more than the 30seconds quick warm up sketches (which are my favourite) and I also need to put into better practice the proportional measurements we are being taught- and I need to actually start looking, rather than trying to draw what I think I can see.

I’m an impatient and short focused soul who may never crack this - I am okay with that, but do also want to push myself to try a little harder to learn and practice.

Wish me luck 🤪

NB- there is plenty of space at this local (chieveley, Newbury) Tuesday evening class, so do drop me a message if you want the details.

Collage on fabric samples 😎
I’ve been having fun today making up these small sample collages. Main b&w or neutral papers on to calico (natural heavy fabric) using gloss medium.

These are for lower school and upper school textile workshops. Trying to blend in my love of collage to the girls. I’m very excited about it.

With lower school (the first sample) I’m going to paint and do some hand stitching.

For the upper school, I’m going to paint and do free machine embroidery 😍

So much fun, and achievable in a few hours. Next up is the free machining- reel to follow!

Really enjoying the little details, and the texture of the layered papers under the stark white 🤩 wasn’t expecting that, and I’m glad I left it white.

Next I’ll need to think about frame options - any thoughts on colour suggestions? ⬇️

But not today- just rest now!

😰😱😱😱 it’s happening… I’m in full on ugly stage mode and definitely worried of course. I have to keep hold of my idea and not panic - but it’s bloody hard. Nearly three months (not constant obvs) of collage and now I’ve just painted over 70% of it 🫣

Let’s keep fingers crossed 🤞. Still a fair amount to do - including signature text over the indigo ring. Before peel back the circles of masking film… my favourite bit.

Windmill shapes - and look at the blue of the sky! I always love that combination of crisp white and clear blue of the sky 😍

We stopped here on our way back from Savernake and got another treat of inspiring shapes. My hubby has decorated this windmill a few years back, and it was nice to go visit with the children.

Trying to post all the photos I take that come under the inspiration banner - means I can find them quicker 😉
