2023

This exciting project involved the demolition and reconstruction of a four-bedroom home in West Hill. Collaborating closely with the clients, we carefully tailored every aspect of the design to suit their needs and daily lifestyle.

The clients envisioned a home with a traditional exterior profile, complemented by bold contemporary features. Having secured planning approval earlier this year, we are thrilled to move forward with the next phase and begin preparations for construction.

2019

TFQ were commissioned to design a bespoke new home in the heart of Topsham, tailored to the unique lifestyle and needs of our clients. From concept to completion, we worked closely with them to ensure every detail of the design enhanced their daily lives .

The first floor hosts the kitchen and living spaces, featuring expansive windows that frame the stunning views of Topsham Harbour. Sliding doors and thoughtfully positioned roof lights over the kitchen island create a light-filled, welcoming atmosphere.

We are proud to announce that this project has recently been completed on site this year, delivering a home that perfectly balances functionality, comfort and some fun features.

2015

The proposed development at Pynes farm was designed to reflect the form of a traditional farmstead. Due to its rural nature, a functional form was needed, so buildings of varying heights were proposed.

The intention with this design concept was to evoke and reinterpret a seemingly informal arrangement of structures as would be expected in an agricultural property/farm yard but contain with in this form, a contemporary housing scheme.

The proposal totalled 10 dwellings with 100m2 of dedicated children’s play area surrounded by green infrastructure.

2011

Nestled in the East Devon village of Lympstone, this small development for a local property developer consists of three houses, all designed with privacy and space in mind. Secluded away from the main street, this set of prestigious homes is stepped back from the road via a private drive with individual entrances, surrounded by hedge rows for a secluded experience for the property owners.

The designs feature bold, mono-pitch roofs with a mixture of materials including composite shiplap cladding, render and brickwork. With large windows and juliet balconies, these high specification properties are a perfect addition to the area and created three stunning family homes.

2008

The Last Resort is a one-off home built on the site of an old chalet bungalow on the edge of the East Devon village of Exton, with fantastic views overlooking the River Exe. The use of natural materials with large glazed areas created a modern, contemporary design, utilising some more traditional elements such as handmade brickwork.

Internally the house is designed so all the principal rooms face South or South West to make the most of the views across the water and to allow as much sunlight to flow through the rooms as possible. These spaces are all organised around a central stair hall providing the main circulation space.

The use of materials in the project features a colour palette which could be mistaken for being Mediterranean, with crisp white render and an unmistakable copper roof, this property fits right in on its waterside spot and provides a contemporary and spacious family home for our clients.

2007

The original buildings at Luxborough Farm date back to the Sixteenth Century and have been developed during the Seventeenth Century and again with an extension to the farmhouse in Twentieth Century.

TFQ were appointed to design a new atrium entrance space in the Grade II listed property. Using our expertise of the planning process, TFQ guided our clients through the challenging task of extending and refurbishing a listed property.

The end result is a fantastic glazed atrium space with stunning oak framework built by master craftsmen and a feature staircase. The new features complement the existing property beautifully yet sensitively, offering a light and spacious area within a traditional rural property.

2006

Ottery Primary School was the subject of a 4 million pound building development which added 10 new classrooms, an ICT suite, a dedicated Art and DT room, a Dance/Drama studio and a new kitchen.

TFQ worked on funding submissions as well as design consultation, planning drawings and construction packages. Working closely with the school to establish their needs and the shortfalls of their existing accommodation, TFQ identified that the most appropriate and economic solution for extending the school was to demolish three of the five pods and provide a new extension to house the accommodation required to provide a two form entry primary school.

The plan took the form of a central top lit atrium housing the ICT suite at the ground floor. Circulation wrapped around the atrium on both levels and afforded access to all the teaching spaces. Ancillary accommodation such as storage and toilets was tucked away to the rear of the extension where there was no natural light. The careful arrangement of accommodation, combined with the clever manipulation of natural light and ventilation resulted in a tight, efficient plan form providing well lit, airy teaching accommodation.

Both internally and externally, a simple yet bright palette of colours was employed, highlighting steel columns, wind catchers, infill panels, stair balustrades and teaching walls. Externally a combination of timber cladding, render and brick helped to break up the bulk of the building and relate it to it’s wider setting and the local materiality. The resulting building proved very popular with the staff, children and local community as it provided a colourful, comfortable and inspiring learning environment. As a result, TFQ were later commissioned to design and manage a pre-school extension to the school.

2004

The Beach Hut project involved the demolition of an existing 1970s house and replacing it with a new, contemporary property. Overlooking the beaches of Budleigh Salterton, it was designed to be a seaside escape, with a beautiful outdoor area overlooking the coast, fire pit and seating area for entertaining and relaxing, but also an expansive terrace with a dramatic sail structure for shading which was formed with natural oak masts, cotton cloth sails and stainless steel rigging anchored back to the buildings foundations.

The house has been designed to suit its location perfectly. It is open plan but has partial dividers to designate the spaces without enclosing them. The kitchen is an inviting dual-aspect area. Here the typical rectangular island has been abstracted into a polished black concrete wedge shape which overlaps a similarly wedge shaped oak table. The sitting room has large folding doors opening onto a timber-decked terrace, and doubling the living area in fine weather.

The project was awarded with the Otter Valley Design of the Year, for quality of design and use of materials. It has also featured in various national magazines and newspapers for its design.

PLANNING APPROVAL!

We are thrilled to announce that TFQ has successfully secured planning approval for a stunning extension and refurbishment to a 4-bedroom house in Exton!

Our design thoughtfully preserves the charm of the existing property while incorporating a spacious two-storey extension. This extension is carefully situated on the north elevation, ensuring that the expansive south-facing garden remains undisturbed.

Additionally, we have included a modern sunroom featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor living, allowing for an abundance of natural light throughout the interior.

Through a combination of internal renovations and refurbishments, the proposed plan enhances the home’s functionality and maximises its space to better suit the daily needs of our clients.

If you’re considering a similar project, we would love to work with you! Reach out, and let’s discuss how we can bring your vision to life.
