Small cleaning project underway today at Wartling, E Sussex...a mile down the road from Hertsmonceux Observatory. Lunch break taken sitting in warm Spring sunshine, listening to Rooks arguing their territorial rights against a landscape stretching down to Eastbourne and the South Downs. For a few minutes there the world felt like a better place.

A video tour of an underground installation by Compton, 1934. The sound of the organ is directed upwards by a smooth concrete duct. Totally enclosed, the shutters are across the bottom duct aperture. The output end is just behind the front pipes, above the console.

If you've never seen the business end of a Compton diaphone, this post is for you. In the clip you will see how the be**er box is flooded with wind when the primary action is played. When the box is closed up, the be**er gets excited but stops as soon as the box is reopened. It's not possible to see it actually vibrating. This is CCC of a Pedal Sub Bass 16ft.

This client needed a hefty spotted metal front taken out for building repairs. To avoid laying these large pipes down, our solution was to make a temporary half-moon stay fixed to a vestry wall plus some countersunk toe blocks.
