A well-known online retailer fined £4.8 million!!!!!
The fine followed a CMA investigation into misleading time-limited offers. It’s a reminder to look beyond the countdown clock - and to do your research before you buy.
We understand why customers ask, “Why have I seen it cheaper online?” or “Isn’t it exactly the same one?”
Two products can look very similar, even use the same fabric, but still have different specifications. Ask what’s inside: what the frame is made from and how it’s constructed, what support system is used, and what type of foam and cushion fillings are included. A photo or matching fabric alone may not tell you the whole story.
We’ve also recently heard from customers who saw a corner sofa advertised at a price such as “Was £1,999, now £1,599”, then discovered when they tried to order that the offer price was for cash purchases only and finance wasn’t available on that ordered item. If a price depends on how you pay or what you order, those conditions should be clear from the outset so you can compare offers properly.
Price matters. So do the product, the seller, delivery, returns and the help available if you need it. In our showroom, you can see and try things, ask questions and talk through your options with people who know the products. We may spend an hour or more helping someone choose with confidence.
