After much thought, we’ve made the difficult decision to close Fred’s Haberdashery altogether.

As you know, we closed the shop in Chesterfield at the end of September and had plans to continue trading online. However, circumstances conspired against us. Everyday things like finding and working a full-time job, the logistics of buying/selling and storing stock, and the incessant nature of online selling made us realise it wasn't going to be as straightforward as we had initially thought. The final nail in the coffin was finding out that our landlord's company had gone into liquidation. This meant we wouldn't be getting our bond back as expected. It is still uncertain how much, if any, will be returned; it will likely take months. This significantly reduced our options for moving forward.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us over the years — it has truly meant the world. 💛

This isn’t our usual kind of post, so please take a moment to stop and read.

Freds is closing…

Yes, you read that right, Fred’s is actually closing. After a lot of soul-searching and tough talks, we have decided to close the shop at the end of the month. Saturday, 27th September 2025, will be our last actual day of trading in the shop.

Unfortunately, the trading conditions in the shop over the last 12 months, coupled with rising product and overhead costs, have meant that it is no longer viable to run the “bricks and mortar” shop.

We will continue to run the online store, selling off remaining stock in the shop, and will reassess how successful that is towards the end of the year.

For the moment, we’re clearing the shelves in the shop (and the basement) of stock as well as selling up our shop fixtures and fittings. Please get in touch directly or talk to Emily if you are interested in any of the retail fittings

Don’t forget to follow us on social media for updates on any promotions or special clearances. We hope to see you in the shop soon to say goodbye and that you can make some last-minute purchases before it all goes for good!

Finally! It is the much anticipated Crafters Bazaar this Sunday. Fred's will be open 10-4. I quite fancy a walk around myself so Mr Fred will be here to muck in.

All basement trimmings are currently half price at 50p a metre or £5 for a full card.

We'll also have all of the card- making stuff out so come down and see what you can find.
