Emma Henderson Artist and Designer passionate about natural dyes YOYO Studio started as a side business in 2016 while I was still busy with my first business Showpony.

As a new mum to two fantastic little people I wanted to create some artwork for their rooms. So, using their imaginations and curiosities as inspiration I designed a range of artworks that has just kept on growing and growing! YOYO Studio is now my main passion and focus, I love designing bold and unique prints for my children’s walls and to think that they might appeal to the little ones in your life too is really special.

Here’s to the longest day and some long awaited sunshine ☀️.
My dye garden has been a little neglected so far this year but despite that I have some gorgeous calendula and scabious black knight flowering and I’ve just planted out some cosmos, coreopsis and hollyhock seedlings to join the weld and hollyhock from last year. There’s some madder growing in the back garden but it’s so overgrown at the moment I can hardly get to it 🥴
Happy summer solstice ☀️

Today I’m thinking about the women who have come along to my workshops so far this year.

Both sessions sold out, and every single participant has been a woman. What’s been most striking isn’t just the beautiful work that was made, but the atmosphere in the room, curiosity, generosity, and the way people supported each other while learning something new.

Workshops can sometimes feel intimidating, especially if you’re trying something unfamiliar. But these groups have been full of encouragement, shared discoveries, and plenty of laughter around the dye pots and printing tables.

On International Women’s Day it feels right to say thank you to the women who showed up, took time for their creativity, and helped create such thoughtful, welcoming spaces.

I’m really grateful to be building this small community of people exploring natural colour together 🌿

P.S. obviously all genders are welcome!

Natural dyeing feels a little bit like magic ✨

In this workshop you'll learn how to print with mordant to create beautiful patterns with plant dye and watch them come to life in the dye pot.

You'll leave with your own naturally dyed fabric to take home along with the confidence to keep creating.

It's a fun and experimental session with no prior experience necessary.

Saturday 7 March at the Burgh Yard in Helensburgh

Printing with plant colour 🌿

I’m running a couple of workshops in Helensburgh exploring printmaking with natural dyes and plant-based colour.

These sessions are perfect if you’re curious about natural colour, enjoy working with your hands, or just want a few hours to experiment in a calm, creative space.

No experience needed, and all materials are provided. Just come along ready to experiment.

workshop in natural printmaking, screen printing and sustainable design

I did a little kitchen-table printing this morning. This print is a kind of deconstructed landscape and it’s been moving back and forth between sketchbook and computer for a while so I decided it was time to get on an see how it would look printed. It’s a bit too cold for hanging out in the garage where my pint table lives is so the kitchen became the studio.

This type of screen printing is all about the process for me, from making the inks (again in the kitchen) to cutting and layering the stencils. Although it’s subtle as all layers are in yellow, I love the areas where the prints intersect and the unintended textures from using a slightly beat-up old screen.

If you’re interested in learning this process, I have just two spaces left on my screen printing with natural dyes workshop at the beginning of February. I’d love you to join me, where we’ll experiment with process and not worry about perfection.
