Packing stock for this weekend and thought this one needed its own mention. Carbon steel sandwiched with wrought iron, rolled wrought iron rivets, apricot wood handle, a simple shape in a simple sheath, but hopefully elegant none the less. One of the items on the stand for the weekend. Drop by if you are there, familiar faces may get cake 😁

Made a new heavy linen canvas forge awning for my recent trip to Bern for an event with CoSG. Pics of the event to follow but for now get a load of these eyelets! Hole in canvas reinforced with linen wrapped brass rings and then oversewn with more linen - that should do it.

This 18kg beauty washed up on the shores of FB marketplace a few months ago. I snapped it up and have been keeping it wondering if I should restore and make use of it or let it stay a historical artefact. It’s got some age, not sure how much but maybe 1800s - it’s got a medieval shape to it which is lovely. The anvil face is much softer than my modern 20th century one. After months of looking at it I have taken an angle grinder to it and cleaned it up. I am using it as my anvil for demos and displays. I figured it’s better to show it off in use and it has scrubbed up nicely. I genuinely think it seems happier being used. I hope I am not alone in believing that artefacts particularly well used practical ones get imbued with the ‘hau’ of the folk that have handled and laboured with them in the past. I feel I am doing some justice to the memories of the smiths who have used this anvil before by keeping it alive and using it. Keen to hear what anyone involved in artefact restoration has to say.
