he secret to durable outdoor timber signage
This video shows one of the key stages in our sign-making process – carefully filling the laser-engraved details with black resin to create a crisp, high-contrast finish that won't fade or peel like traditional painted lettering.
Over the years, we've tried numerous methods for finishing outdoor timber signs, including paint-filled engraving, varnished engravings and other protective coatings. Through experience and real-world testing, we've refined our process to achieve the best possible combination of appearance, durability and longevity.
Once the engraving has been resin-filled, It's allowed to set and then sanded back to reveal sharp defined detaisl. Then each sign is protected with Rubio Monocoat DuroGrit®, a high-performance wood finish specifically developed for exterior use. This provides exceptional protection against UV exposure, rain and changing weather conditions while allowing the natural beauty of the timber to shine through.
The result is a sign that's built to withstand years of outdoor use, maintaining its appearance and legibility through every season.
