We think inclusive play design needs to move beyond the idea of a “one-size-fits-all” sensory room.

Every child experiences sensory input differently, and their needs can change throughout the day.

Sometimes they may need a quiet, calming space to decompress and regulate.

At other times, they may need movement, exploration and sensory stimulation.

That’s why thoughtful SEND sensory design is about more than simply creating a “sensory room”. A thoughtfully designed environment can support different needs at different times.

And importantly, sensory design doesn't have to stop at the sensory room. Corridors, transition spaces and wider environments can all play a role.

We recently delivered this sophisticated play space for Louma Country Hotel

This dedicated hotel playroom combines active soft play, imaginative role play and arts and crafts. Every element was designed to maximise play value while complementing the hotel’s refined interiors.

This is a play space that supports family stays, encourages longer visits, and becomes part of what visitors remember most about their stay.

This handmade soft play flower bed is designed to encourage imaginative role play while meeting the highest standards of safety and quality. Crafted using REACH-compliant, phthalate-free materials that include part-recycled content, it combines thoughtful design with responsible manufacturing.

As part of a large indoor playground project we’re currently working on, these tactile flowers create opportunities for exploration, storytelling and collaborative play, all within an environment built to last.

Three sustainable materials you’ll see a lot of in our workshop:

🌲 Timber
We use FSC-certified timber from responsibly managed sources, alongside timber from our own woodland, carefully harvested from windblown trees and those selected for felling. Through our ongoing replanting programme, we’re investing in the long-term sustainability of every project we deliver.

♻️ Foam
Inside many of our soft play products is reconstituted foam, or recon. Made from recycled foam offcuts, it gives high-quality materials a second life while reducing waste, without compromising on performance.

🧵 Fabric
Our soft play material is selected for its durability, safety and environmental credentials. REACH compliant, phthalate-free, anti-microbial and tested to one million Martindale rubs, it’s built to withstand the demands of busy play environments. It’s also made using recycled cotton and is recyclable at the end of its life.

Every material we choose is carefully considered both for real-world use, and for its environmental impact.

Creating successful play spaces in commercial environments requires more than simply adding play equipment.

Every element must work hard, enhancing the customer experience, supporting family-friendly destinations and integrating seamlessly with the surrounding architecture.

This project, delivered in collaboration with Play Experiences & Associés and osom group for SHOP PARK Cap Costières, demonstrates how thoughtfully designed play can become a destination in its own right while supporting wider commercial objectives.
