Two similar fruit bowls away to new homes.

Made from oak that fell in 2021 in Newtownabbey.

Oak is a particular favourite, because there are so many stories and associations through a wide range of cultures.

Due to height and water content, oak are more prone to lightning strikes, earning associations with Thor.

A rhyme when we were growing up:
If the oak before the ash,
Then we’ll only have a splash.
If the ash before the oak,
Then we’ll surely have a soak!

Sherwood Forest- the Major Oak. Just past it's lifetime this year.

There are associations with sailing, building, crowns being made from oak. It's ability to nurture the forest around it earned it the title "King of the Forest".

Everywhere you look, oak has traditional standing with royalty, endurance and strength.

Set up in Magherafelt for Naturally North Coast and Glens Speciality Market!

We are down in the Old market yard on Rainey Street- here until 4pm, with our Viking and Celtic inspired woodcraft.

Plenty of amazing traders, bakers and artists alongside us- do come down and see us all..

Rich will always tell you that when he's woodworking it relaxes him. No matter what is going on, slowing down and working wood soothes him. That's more true with hand tools- slower, more feel for the wood, shaping the design as he goes. I'm the same doing design work- I can spend long hours drawing something out, gridding a design, burning it.

Neither of us notice the hours that pass. That's what happens when you are doing something you love.

Set up with the pole lathe and sales stall at Garden Show Ireland in our beautiful and local Antrim Castle Gardens & Clotworthy House ! We are here with CRAFT NI for the final day of this outstanding event!

You'll find us in the green beside Clotworthy at the side of the big marquees.

We will be here all day demonstrating the use of a pole lathe, and we have our Viking and Celtic woodwork with us in our sales stall
